Can anyone out there with a 94-95 E280 or E320 tell me if when they switch on the ignition to postion 2 with all the dash lights on but before the car is started, is there a whining noise coming from the throttle valve?
If not then mine is broke.
My cruise control is surging (the faster you go the more it surges) and I can feel the throttle pedal clicking up and down as it does it.
I've replaced the speed transducer, stripped the control amp/ecu (looks fine with no broken joints) and finally stripped the throttle valve assembly. There was some evidence of corrosion on this around the soldered joints but it cleaned up well and I thought this might cure the problem; it didn't.
The whining noise comes from the cruise control motor which spins continuously when disassembled but still whines when not spinning (held fast with the connecting cog in place). There is a small magnetic clutch (flat black circular disc) which holds the motor still but also adjusts the throttle. If I ever so slighty touch this thing the speed of the motor slows or the direction reverses (when the connecting cog is removed between the clutch and motor).
All I need to know now is if this thing is broke then I'll replace it but don't want to if its okay.
The fault codes are inconsistant but 1 of them might be an incorrect TN signal (engine speed).
