Anyone know whether it might be possible to fit facelift Comand in to pre-facelift B class. I know MB have a habit of changing protocols making this incompatible.
Would Partspecialist know? Is this a job for Alfie?

(Ps if you are reading this Alfie, can you retrofit a 7G tronic box to go with your steering wheel flaps in a manual car?? Was most impressed by that thread! )

I bet he would only be able to make the first 6 gears work. :)

I'm not familiar with B-class but I read it only started somewhere 2005 and the face lift is very recent. This should be all MOST then, should not involve any protocol changes. I'm happy to leave the details for Alfie and others.

Firstly, we think it is entirely possible to retrofit a facelifted A/B class comand unit to a pre-facelifted car. We have not actually done it yet but intend to soon. If it does work then its highly likely that phone pre-wiring if it exists in the car, wont work but the integrated bluetooth should. Will let you all know when we actually do it.

7G gearbox in a manual car? No thanks. I'm sure its possible but cost/time/ramps/research would make it prohibitively expensive.

Is there actually a completely new Comand for the face lift, like the most recent one for the W211? I missed that.

PS. I thought steering wheel flaps were supposed to control the existing manual tranny, for that one could expect either "a secret code" or at most some minor Star coding... :D

Thanks Alfie. I would be really keen on this. Let me know if you are interested in a guinea pig car. I have the H-K speakers, but no phone pre-wire.

Yes, there is a new comand unit with integrated blue tooth, 4gb internal storage & I think either a memory card reader or usb slot. The styling is a little(subtly) different, although still blends with the pre-facelift car as the facelift dash & controls are essentially the same as the pre-facelift car. the price is just short of £2000 as a new car option, but this includes a cd changer, iirc.
The facelift audio 20 also includes integ bluetooth plus has a colour screen.

Its more than just a bit of STAR coding :)

Have checked; the facelift units also have speed responsive volume adjustment & do have a memory card slot.
