Well despite rain being the nemesis of car cleaning/detailing, at least it has one perk. Beading!

Gives a good indication of protection on your paint and looks pretty cool with it. Here's some pictures of my E320 with two coats of Dodo Juice Supernatural Hybrid applied.

I may be in a minority on my enthusiasm for this one though! haha

For a moment I was worried it was going to be about the beads you thread onto string......was uncertain if I should even look.

Now you will have started another mine is bigger than yours contest.......

Though I like a bit of bead-porn as much as the next man, but he problem with a beading finish is that all the pollution and dust in those beads will be deposited on your paintwork when the rain dries.

What we want (really, really want) is a product that flattens the rainwater so that it DOESN'T bead!

That way, when it dries, all the crap in the air will have gone down the drain, not on your paintwork...

Still looking for a product that does that...

Well, I've just had my new Lexus treated with GEN-3Glasscoat and part of the product blurb states -
"all cars are easier to clean after having GEN-3GLASSCOAT fitted; it keeps water from beading which is one of the main causes of unsightly water deposits. If water deposits are formed when the car is cleaned in bright sunlight then the deposits are easier to remove."

It hasn't rained since collecting the car so I not observed the effect, yet ...

GEN-3 Glasscoat Paint and Fabric Protection

We sell Gen-3 at work, and as long as its applied correctly (as with anything), it is a good product. It does bead, but not to the extent of traditional waxes / sealents, and seems to protect well. Works great on windows too!

I on the other hand, love to see a car beading water. Some really good shots there OP!

In theory that's true, although I do find that a properly waxed car will repel dirt so when it comes to cleaning it removes far more easily. My car sits still for a week or two at a time, it gets dusty and dirty whether the rain is beading off or sheeting anyway. I do know what you mean though.

Usually it's more sealant type products that will sheet rather than bead although in theory water sheets of either but it's as much how the water is hitting the panel. Open hose it'll sheet off, rain will bead which looks damn cool haha

I have seen cars treated with Glasscoat, I actually have a spare bottle of the stuff at home. Certainly beads very well and if the protection is good then it will make it easier to clean and dry. :)

I believe Dr Beasleys are developing an excellent sheeting, non-beading coating, until that time Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light doesn't have much beading so would be a good bet at the mo.

cheers,

Chris

I think what you need (really, really need) is a product with hydrophilic properties (causes sheeting) as supposed to a hydophobic product (causes beading). Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine will do this. It is applied in the same way as a shampoo except it has no bubbles and doesn't require rinsing off. The polymers deposited on the paint surface cause water to sheet. This video probably shows the effect better than I can explain:

from the look of that video, sheeting is what we want! ;)

Considering I've drive over 500 miles and the car has been sat outside, rain and shine for the last two weeks. Beading seems to be serving my paintwork rather well. This is pre-wash this morning.
