To all those that contributed to my last thread. In the end I went for the solution which took the +12V from the glove box light. Now for the confession.... it still didn't work and I found that it wasn't the 12V dropping but the "earth point" I was using drifting up to about 10V when the lights were put on!!!... clearly the screw that went into a big metal device with all the brown wires leading to it wasn't earth as I had assumed.
Sorry if I confused you all (you can guess I was pretty confused myself) but no harm done, the live feed is now from the glove box, the earth from pin 8 on the ISO plug, the Road Angel and the re-radiating antenna work, the CD cable is installed in the radio and the CD works on the front seat.... all I have to do now is work out how to get the CD cable from the front footwell to the boot. Thanks again... I hope this helps someone not to make the same mistake in the future.
