Which may be industry wide.

I called Aviva today to tell them that my car has a Tracker and a detachable towbar fitted.

The reduction to the policy due to the Tracker - nil
The increase to the policy due to the detachable towbar - nil.

These questions crop up periodically, so there's the gospel according to Aviva.

Others may be different.

Heard before that trackers can make next to no difference to a premuim, certainly not more than the subscription costs. Issue is some won't quote unless one is fitted (depending on the car) you you need to work out if it is actually saving you money or not.

In most cases, it isn't so you can cancel the sub. If the car is stolen and you want it back, you can usually pay them a year's fee to switch it back on again.

I suppose they can allege there are increased road risks when towing - although I normally drive even more carefully with a trailer on the back !

I haven't told my insurers about the tow bars on both my cars - although they are factory fitted from new. Assume this is OK?

Generally I tow a boat 4 miles per year. Not willing to pay £40/mile insurance cost...

The tow bar has insurance benefits - when people reverse into my parked vehicle, for example!

Neither did I on my previous cars, but it was suggested by someone on here and I like to minimise the risk of the insurance company walking away.

Bloody hell - that's ex torsion :)

Did you used to be bitter and twisted?

I've had a detachable towbar in the boot of the ML since new, never used and the only option I declared to the insurers was the added 20" summer wheels. No change in premium.:)

Did Aviva charge you £50 for the Brabus box?
