My car was involved in a very low speed accident on the 8th of April this year, and the other driver is not addmitting liability, so as it stands i have told the insurers that i will pay my excess and have the car repaired at my choice of repairers,
As it stands the insurance company have agreed to repair my car, after a few hours of back and forth they have also agreed to a new front bumper.
The problem lies with parts replaced at my own cost since the accident i have replaced a few bits to keep the cars apperance and stop the annoying rattaling noises and the cars lack of speed, i replaced:
Grill - rattaling due to screw mounts broken
Hose - snapped due to being brittle
Undertray - broken and was flapping about on road surface.
But the engine check light came on and the fault codes appered and with some advice i got some parts which made the car 'driveable'
camshaft adjuster, magnet and the modified wiring loom along with a valve.
The insurance are going to send the car to mercedes to asses if the fault codes would come up as result of the accident. which my argumant is that they have arisen due to the accident, as the car was fine before then and had about 1k spent on it that month days before the accident, including tyres allround, battery, brake fluid change, coolent change, drop links, ARB bushes, bearing, tie rod, tie rod ends and brakes/discs all round at my local indi and any faults would have been resolved, they may be oending but something has triggerd the light to come on. The codes are as follows:
P0010, camshaft position actuator A- blank 1 circuit malfunction
P0141 secondary air injection system valve A CKT short
P0135 02 sensor heater circuit malfunction (blank 1 sensor 1)
P0141 02 sensor heater circuit malfunction (blank 1 sensor 2)
P0445 EVAP emission control system purge valve C short
P0113 IAT sensor 1 circuit high input
P0102 MAF or VAF A circuit low input
and thats on my hand held scanner no doubt the merc scanner will bring up more detailed faults.
Where do i stand in terms of arguing that the car should be repaired, and that all faults should be rectifiyed? and could the faults be put down to the accident?
any help or advice would be appreciated.
