Hi all
have a w124 230E 1990 pre facelift.
I have ac function, but when switched on it only blows out not cold but not hot air, its kind of in the middle, warm and never gets cold.
Am i functioning it wrong? or whats the problem?
just a recharge or whole new pump needed?

Thanks:bannana:

Quick check run the engine with a/c on for a few minutes, switch engine off find the 2 pipes from the a/c pump both should be cold fattest one should be coldest and poss dripping in condensation.

Treated my CLK to the Kwik fit service a couple of weeks ago after reading the glowing reports on here and it worked a treat.....

..... for the journey back from the garage. Next day I fire her up and no cool air again. I took it back and was told it did recharge at the time otherwise the machine would have said so and it must have a slow leak. They don't have facilities to investigate/repair the leaks unfortunately.

Advised me to have the leak fixed and then pop back for a free recharge which seemed fair enough but thinking about it whoever fixes the leak will prob have to recharge the system anyway to test / guarantee the work.

Not had chance to get to a garage to have it done yet but will report back. Assume there are no easy to check / DIY fixes for these leaks..

No, not really.

However, for the gas to have escaped so suddenly and quickly means there's a significant leak. So much so, that I would have expected the automated sequence on their machine to stop and lock out at the vacuum test stage.

There are two parts which can't be checked by the vacuum test - the low side and high side service ports. I would begin any leak testing here.

Failing that, the next place to look is the condenser - being sited at the very front means that it can receive some impact damage.

To find a leak in AC a dye is normally added to the gas.....I think this fluoresces under uv light and thus any leak can be spotted.....obviously this means that the system needs to be recharged with gas with the dye added to it.....any reputable garage with facilities to recharge / service AC should be able to do this for you.
