A Class ignition issue

Hi everyone, I hope you can help.

My wife's A Class (2004, 140) is having intermittent starting issues. It starts, ticks over, we stop the engine go to start again and nothing (all the lights come on, on dash as per usual, but no sign of life from the engine).

The RAC have just been out and said their best guess was a problem with the ignition switch, does this sound a familiar problem? This car has been no end of trouble and this could be the straw which breaks the camels back...

Any views greatly appreciated.

It will either be a starter motor or ignition switch problem.
