Unbelievable! Just came back from my local MB Dealership after having some recall work done, popped into the barbers on the way home, pulled up in the street and heard that sound we all don't want to hear..Bu**er. I've managed to scuff the outer rim of the alloy on the nearside front alloy (picture below hopefully). Anyone know whether this can be repaired? If so I'm in the North East (Sunderland) so if there are any fellow Northerners on here that can recommend any decent alloy wheel repair places that would be great.

Thanks

Liam

Looks diamond cut? Any good wheel refurber will be able to sort it
Can't help with places I'm afraid
You can buy these protectors that stick on but they look tacky

Correct they are diamond cut, I actually went back to MB Sunderland later today and spoke with the body shop guy. The problem with diamond cut alloys is that the dealer doesn't have a lathe for diamond cut alloys and usually outsource major refurb work to others. However, he had a look at the alloy and advised that they should be able to sort it using their normal lathe given that it is just on the outer rim, polish the wheel and then re-seal it. I was quoted £90 which doesn't seem that bad to be honest. I agree with the protectors they do look tacky.

Thanks

Outsider looking in!:dk:

The damage to your Alloy is to the Diamond Cut Rim, if the Dealer hasn't got a Lathe for Diamond Cut Alloys then if he shaves off a few thou (old money) and polishes the rim it will never be the same again!

I would suggest that you google a Diamond Cut Ally Wheel Refurb/Restorer and get it done properly, I can't remember the best one that is normally posted on here, but I'm sure someone can advise with the Place and Name of the Firm!

Get it done by a proper wheel restorer pal

I agree with others here. No problem for a REAL wheel refurb company, meaning one that removes the wheel and tyre and puts the wheel through the correct diamond cut process on a lathe, then fits the tyre and balances the wheel.

Not normally something that can be done in the back of a van on your driveway.

Good luck :thumb:

Thanks for the advice guys, my thoughts were that the car is on PCP and is due to go back next year, if the dealer does the work they can't exactly whinge about it not being to "Mercedes Standard" when it goes back. That being said I would rather pay more to get the wheel back to top condition. I've found a franchise called The Wheel Specialist which has a branch not far from me (Durham) who do diamond cut alloy repairs, the reviews look promising. Has anyone heard of these guys?

Yes I have used these as they are only 5 mins away.
Work was done to a high standard and on time.
You will need to book it in as they are always very busy.

Thanks for the heads up, the reviews look good. I'll look to get a quote from them.
