A day at the Auctions

Nice car, but please get a warranty.... Ours has had the following faults on the last 4k

Leaking exhaust manifold
Failed power steering
Safety devices failure (or so the computer says)
Unable to turn off wipers
Failed remote central locking (touring model)

Good luck!

I'm coming back to Mercedes!

Mine has the same cradle, completely useless, think twice about splashing out On a cradle. 2 questions:
Can you see a microphone?
Is the cradle a Bluetooth unit?

Now this is becoming a mystery.

Cradle (I had already ordered it) arrived today and charges nicely.

Not sure whether I have a Bluetooth kit that I can't find, or the remains of a Bluetooth kit. Becoming a bit of a challenge now.

I can see a 'Handsfree' bluetooth signal, but can't pair up to it. I'm going to have to go for a drive and see if its in my car or just a car nearby.

^^^ i thought that about abt w211 when it came out hated it, now i own one! :)

must say i always liked the 5 series shape

Well a few weeks in I have to say I am surprised how much I like this car.

It's no slouch, and in the past few days I have driven Doncaster to Bristol, Bristol to Swansea and back, a few local journeys in Bristol and back to Doncaster on the same tank of fuel. 47 mpg while making reasonable progress.

Handles a bit sharper than the w203.it replaced, fortunately without the daft sports suspension or wide wheels.

What's that red leaved plant growing up your wall to the right of the Beemer? Does it grow on a trellis or is it an ivy?

It's an ivy. No idea which one but it certainly grows fast...

Ok thanks, I didn't want anything that sticks to the mortar/brickwork- sorry to have diverted the thread :thumb:.

Get it off the run flats and that will transform it.

Standard car no Bluetooth but does have pre paid servicing but my have mileage limitations so worth a trip to your BMW dealer. Car originates from vines of redhill.

Which is why it should be cheaper, but presumably this car was warranted anyway, so you get 24hrs to spot any major faults.

I note the OP said this one wasn't warranted, but even where they are, you get an hour don't you, not 24hrs?

Congratualtions on the new car, looks like a decent buy and one of the early facelift (or LCI in BMW speak) models. They certainly look fresher than the first E60 5 series.

I'm running one as a company car right now and they are great cars, for what you paid it's a fantastic car.

For info, all of them have the phone / nav aerial (shark fin) and parking sensors as standard.

I tried the BMW forums when I had the 7 series. Did not like them - Please can I stay!

Indicators - what are they? and whats all this about the BMW lane....

Traitor!!! Did I say that aloud David? Sorry I meant to say nice car, always like that shape...:ban:

Now picked up its first war wound. Flying stone scarred the windscreen.

Bit peeved with the insurance co as I am VAT registered so have to pay the vat to claim back, except because I'm on flat rate I can't claim it back.

Time to pick up the thread. Had the car for 15 months, and its now showing 148k

In that time it's needed a new spring In the handbrake shoe (£20 with labour), and a service (£140 main dealer with loan car!).

It's now poorly though. Stuck thermostat I think. A rather pricey £175 from an indie. It's not booked in for a week so may look to have this done somewhere better value as this sounds expensive for the work involved.

Still very happy with the car.

Despite the current issue it sounds like a wise buy. Any thoughts on the depreciation so far?

I don't begrudge a thermostat, although a temp gauge would have helped.

Don't want to think about depreciation. I've used it too much hence the miles.
