a discount "equivalent to your NCB"...

So have just had to jiggle around my insurance on cars. Insurance on an X1 became due, so I called to move the 8 years NCB from the C63 to that.

However, I was also insuring an Audi A3 which was the main reason of the call, they did me a deal on that, then when they asked why I wasn't renewing the X1 with them I told them they were too expensive. They said they'd give me an equivalent NCB discount on the X1 that I had on the C63 (which is/was with a different insurer).

They haven't asked me for any proof of no claims, they just worked it out since they'd been the insurer of the C63 the year before, so they knew how much it was now.

The C63 is currently SORN, but I'm about to get it going again. So where am I exactly? Do I still have a NCB with that? is this 'discount' actually them taking my NCB despite not asking for it? or just a straight discount for new business?

Yes. I've always been given 'mirrored' NCD.

The only time they refused was when I asked them to mirror NCD from my van (9 years) to a car. Apparently they won't mirror from commercial to Car.

However they will mirror from Car to commercial.

Insurers are a strange bunch.

They sure are. Just renewed both cars and after receiving the stupidly high renewal, I rang and got it discounted to the 'minimum' price. I rang back a few days later to confirm the price and was asked if I needed all the named drivers on. I advised that it always reduced my premium and he agreed, but only for new quotes and not renewal but couldn't really explain why . I removed family members as they have their own policies and are covered 3rd party under their own cover. It reduced my monthly premium from £185 p/m last year (wife only passed this year) to £156 initially (loyalty) and then finally to £89 (yes £89) p/m for exactly the same cover minus 2 drivers. Madness but a massive saving for me

Wowzers!

I good insurance story at last. What a result:bannana:

Very strange though. Nevertheless. Good that you saved money. :thumb:

Next year should be even cheaper.

I'd be embarresed to tell you how little I pay. Countryside postcode & 42 years old helps.

Insurance companies are certainly a strange bunch. When my dear wife died, my premium went up .8 years later when I remarried, it came down. Why should marital status affect insurance premiums? Do single or unmarried people have more accidents or claims?

Keep an eye on that as insurers have blown hot and cold on DOC cover over the years and many people have been caught out by not realising it had been taken off. Especially the case if the people you're talking about change insurer.
