Does a 2004 model really have the 7 spd gear box. I doubt the 37mpg claims somewhat. I coaxed 42 from the 220cdi car. Perhaps 27mpg on a v.gentle run, but my experience of V8 cars is 8mpg in town, and 22 tops.

We regularly get 27 mpg from our V8 CLK 430 .... not going nuts , but not hanging around either

Doubt you'd get 37 mpg from it though ...

I got 25mpg out of my V140 S500, and get easily 32mpg out of my current V220 S500.

I stand corrected. But MBManInKen car does have the cylinder shut down feature....I've only sampled the VW group V8's and the BMW V8 with Valvetronic.

I'd have loved a 500, but not with 30k miles/year. Since 10days I've put almost 1k miles on my E.
