Hi,

I braved the weather today to view a mint condition SL500 (R230), but when I checked the Registration Certificate, the engine number reads "NOT KNOWN".

Is this normal? Why would the engine number be missing?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated

Cheers

dvla data is known to be shaky it may have been "lost" when sent from the manufacturer/dealer. But look v carefully just in case you have a duffer, the dvla website has a list of stolen V5 certificates.

could be a replacement engine that wasnt registered maybe

Same here, mine is "unknown". The car was owned by a sitting MP before me...should I be worried?

As mentioned, mainly an indicator of an import. I've had a jap impreza with no engine number. My MR2 turbo also has no engine number.

Hi

Don't be worried. I have seen loads of logbooks without the engine number
Just do a check with dvla if ur worried.
