A pleasant suprise from Volvo!

Recently bought a used V70 D5 Geartronic from a Volvo main dealer.

The Volvo is delivered, couple of weeks afterwards I notice gear changes are getting harsh - disappointment strikes! Take it to local Volvo dealer who diagnose faulty gearbox inards requiring replacement - no problem thinks I as covered under warranty - wrong! Turns out warranty company (that supply Volvo warranties) will not honour it as fault was present before I took delivery of the car (fault logged in memory). This is actually a term of the warranty that I thought would be pretty irrelevant as surely I would notice a fault on the test drive. Supplying dealer looking worryingly as if he doesn't wish to get involved either, even though it his responsibility to rectify the fault.

Anyway, Kastner, my local (not supplying) dealer steps in, contacts Volvo UK who "persuade" warranty company to cover the repair with a new box!

Was expecting a battle that didn't materialise, cheered my day up no end!

Still corners like a plank of wood on marbles though............

You need to get the suspension checked as well then :thumb: Mine corners like its on rails and was the main reason I bought it compared to an E350, they are known for their precise handling in corners and cross country running which is why traffic and armed response use them.

Seriously if it doesn't corner something is amiss somewhere my V70 is about my 10th Volvo and I've had 4 x V70 all have handled superbly.

Good result from Volvo though, really chuffed for you

It's all fine until you have to do 3 point turns on roundabouts such is the turning circle!

It's our 4th Volvo now, keep trying to go back to a Mercedes for everyday but they keep biting me with repair bills. Think I'll stick with Volvo for the near future now.

Ha, no, of course not, replaced a troublesome S211, I feel the pain you've been through, I bailed though!

If I could have afforded to have bought another car, I would have. Probably not a 7g V6CDi despite really enjoying its drive.

Either a 211 facelifted 220cdi, a 204 220cdi or a BMW 25d engined car, 3 or 5 not fussed.

In the end, I will see through all the repairs and try to enjoy it now its fixed, but there is this nagging doubt I have despite an Indie saying "you've just been unlucky, they are lovely engines and cars"....

I hope its that, and not a nice way of saying "****ing money pits"....

My indie said the same, then I worked out it was in his interest for me to keep the car, I must have been his best customer!

Sounds like I'm not a Mercedes fan, but still run and love my W124 convertible which is great, also got a Sprinter camper van (it even has no rust, must be unique!!)

Aye, mine's gave him a christmas treat and he knows I will be back for further work....

Only big headaches I could face are 7g related but keeping the fluid changed (which I've done) and maybe that engine bearing a few have had but thats not a fatal issue.

You're not wrong about that, at least Volvo fix it though!

Turning circle is not brilliant I agree, I have tried for the last 8 years to go back to MB for my daily driver but just cannot justify it my V70 was £10k cheaper than the equivalent MB E class. My Volvo's have never let me down the only maintenance other than servicing was a replacement wheel bearing on my last V70.

I too love MB and my W208 is a great car but think MB have lost their way somewhere.

Turning circle is comedy.

My Volvy is doing well, although having spent the day on the station rooftop car park, it's showing signs of being a tad poorly. Missing and engine management light. I'll monitor it - it might be a coilpack according to my research.

Glad you got it sorted, but this situation is legally very clear cut. Any fault that occurs within 6 months is deemed to have been present at the time of sale.

I would be pretty amazed if a deal wasn't done behind the scenes - I can't see the warranty company being at all happy to pay. Indeed, after such a very short time, why on earth should they pay?

Was this Kastner in Exeter? They have been brilliant with our sons V70. Their labour rate is so reasonable its worth a 150 mile trip each way to get it serviced/repaired. Very helpful too.
