I received this unsolicited email today, via a Gumtree account, from a Mr Jones :rolleyes: claiming to be from a letting agent (though no company details provided).

I think the final sentence just about says it all - no wonder the private rented sector gets a bad rap...

I've told him I'm interested and asked for contact details.
 
Are tenants assumed to be stupid? anyone in the position of finding a shortfall at
the time of negotiating a contract could I suppose pay the required deposit over an
agreed period of time,and that's it.Taking more money would be theft.
 
It doesn't make any sense for that reason, unless particularly vulnerable people are involved, however it may actually be a scam aimed at the landlord.

I'll be interested in his reply.
 
The spelling alone would have sent that straight into the bin.
