A very elusive CLS

That is a beauty, and has a better spec than the black car I viewed. However being a 2006 it is slap in the middle of the era of M272 V6's with the reported timing gear issues. Realise it has a decent 1 year warranty but being a low mileage user and intending to keep the car for maybe 5-6 years it's a bit more of a gamble..

I think you'll receive a call on Tuesday saying they'll discount by £750 if you don't part-ex. You'll say "£1000 and it's a deal". They'll say "there isn't that much in the car". You'll say, "OK £750 and throw in the next service when it's due", and they'll suck air through their teeth, before saying "go on then, deal". You'll advertise your car at £1750, and within three weeks you'll sell it for £1350.

Do you happen to have next week's winning lottery numbers while you're at it? :D

if you are keeping it for 5 years then an extra £500 quid is 30p a day.

Just buy it.

Ask them to through in an extra year warranty on it. No harm in trying.:thumb:

^ I love the 30p a day logic :)

Right, bit of an update gentleman!

Patience pays, it seems. Phone call first thing and after some negotiating I now have the option to buy it at £1000 below the advertised price.

So £12,950 for the car with no px, or £12,450 with my CLK.

I'm happy with the price of the CLS and I will buy it.

Question is what to do with the CLK. Logic dictates that I should get more than £500 for it any day of the week. However, road tax is due at the end of the month so would need to spend £120 on this. Then there are a couple of faults with it that have been there so long you just forget about them but would need fixing if I sold privately:
1) Driver's seat control module not working so seat stuck in position - perfect for me but not so much for next owner possibly.
2) Aircon wasn't icy cool this last week.

Maybe £200 to fix the above faults, plus £110 road tax, plus £150 insurance whilst I wait for sale plus £50 advertising costs = £510.

So I'd need to clear a grand before it being worthwhile. In theory this should be achievable - it's one of the few W208s presented with virtually no rust, 101k miles, FSH - MB and specialist, looks like new inside.

However in practice it's a 12.5 year old car which is insurance group 18 and not exactly light on the juice. I'd love to see it go to a good home rather than being passed through the trade though.

What to do?!

That's great news.

On the CLK front, I've sold to the scrappy for £500, that's is after it been written off by the insurer.

A very well looked after one should get you around £2k.

stick it on ebay three day sale
suggest the height of the perfect driver in the ad

post on classifieds here

or if you can't be bothered
auctions are fun and I expect you would get say £300

ps
why do you need to insure it?

A friend put an absolute wreck of a Peugeot 205 on ebay. He described every one of its many faults in graphic detail, such as "You'll need a big bucket to pour in water faster than it comes out".

It sold for £450

on the other hand my brother put a tatty 208 diesel on for 99p and that is what he got

Thats a lovely car for someone... what an insult from the dealer at 500 quid....

best of luck with the sale

Thanks - my thoughts exactly.

It is an elegant coupe that would look good for anyone to drive round in on these sunny days. At this price point it's a no risk investment - whoever buys could run for a couple of years and likely get the same back for it at the end. Alternatively it has to be worth the price in parts easily.

Either way though - it has been a great car for me and I have had my money's worth in terms of smiles and miles over the last 6 years so I do not mind letting it go for a bargain price for someone else to enjoy.

Picking up the CLS at lunchtime Thursday so either need a completed sale on this by then or a token deposit, say £300 otherwise it is going in px to the dealer. I have no interest in forking out for tax, insurance, advertising and all the associated time.

Hopefully someone on here will want to snap it up!

Yours is going to make a lovely car for someone. Ill just bump this up to the top of the screen for you. Bump, there she goes.
