Not on ebay - looks nice, but a touch pricey?

Never seen one of these described as small before:)

“may be the only 4Matic in the UK that is truly working correctly”

Can't be, as my 4matic works perfectly

" The present owner has brought her back to first class, roadworthy condition with much help from Mercedes specialist Nick Froome at W124 Cars. According to him, this example “may be the only 4Matic in the UK that is truly working correctly, and that’s not a statement made lightly"

These statements always annoy me; how can you tell it 'may be' the only one working correctly? Have they seen and tested exactly every single other 4matic W124 in the UK?

It's like when people say in an advert " this is the finest example of an Austin Allegro in the country" etc. How do they know this?

Is there some magic data base somewhere that none of us no about?

A fair bit of waffle is needed when you're trying to draw 5 grand for a type of car that usually change hands for £500....

If Bolide has "fettled it " then it should be fine.:thumb: Things that count against it for modern motoring are a lack of front airbags :( but on the plus side it may well have the desirable old solvent based paint from the factory. :) Attractive colour.

I suspect Nick Froome has probably seen more of these than any one in this country.

Anyway, given this has been mechanically sorted, the main achilles heel being the fuel consumption of the 300 petrol, I wonder if a project in the great and glorious tradition of windmill tilting would be to put in a multivalve diesel?

Convert to LPG --- very easy with that injection system. Almost a DIY.:thumb:

In the great and glorious tradition of total failure that is my DIY I suspect not!

Sensible, but the estates can't fit a great capacity tank unless you sacrifice the load space.

Oooh, I don't know about that! I've always tried to steer clear as much as possible

In Europe there was a LHD diesel 4-Matic and AFAIK, it had a turbo. That must be quite a piece of kit

Interesting that 4-Matic has been unavailable on RHD cars for so long. The UK isn't the only LHD market that sees snow & bad roads

I was extremely impressed by the 4-Matic in the snow. Even on non-ideal tyres it had traction and felt secure

Big bone of contention for me. :mad:I know I know the perceived wisdom is it would cost too much to develop a RHD version but I simply don't buy that one in terms of market share loss. However there are rumours that the smaller MB vehicles currently in development on the MFA platform may eventually spawn a 4wd version of the FWD system. Presumably that will be a HALDEX style 4WD "on demand" setup rather than a permanent 4WD .
Easier to engineer perhaps and better on fuel, plus they will have Renault to show them how to do it at the right price.:p

So. Does anybody know how many of these 4matic estates are left on our roads? I keep hearing that mine is rare (looks like I am in a majority).

FYI: Mine has just returned from CKL Clive having had some great paint and body work done. It will return there again shortly to have the final bits completed.

Difficult to say without knowing how many were sold. But I would guess you could measure them in dozens rather than hundreds

    Nick,

Did you have a hand in this as the seller states?

    What was done?

I see a few of these 4MATICS still being used for towing trailers with veteran / vintage / classic cars & racers.

There are 92 300TE 4matics left on the road and 47 on SORN according to the DVLA.

Any of you enthusiastic W124 4-matic owners need a set of front discs? I have two pairs, genuine M-B parts, never fitted, so as new. I also have two pairs of unused W124 CE front discs too, as above. Please PM me if interested.
