Morning all,
The interior lights on my car are acting strange. ( worked perfectly when put away in October)
1. Open drivers door and pass side light illuminates.
2. Open pass door and operates correctly.
Press pass side reading light and it works correctly, press drivers side and nothing.
I can’t remember, when you open a door should BOTH lights illuminate ?..... if so then that clears up 1/2.
Bulbs are both ok

Yes if you open the passengers door both lights should come on .The same if you open drivers door both lights should come on . I think may be the switch in the drivers door pillar is sticking in or faulty . Remove battery negative terminal . Now extract the switch from the door pillar , take a look at the switch and wires push it in and out a few times --you can do this while it still in the door pillar before you remove the battery .. Other than that it could be the interior light switch . As you know you can turn both interior lights onj or off from the console above your head . Try the setting in another possition .

Greg i went out to play with my car last night .With the drivers door open i pushed the switch in the door pillar and i can hear a relay clicking under the dash drivers side .This might be the problem look under the dash,, and press the switch at the same time to locate the relay .

Hi all, thanks for input. I also have a 320sl (97) with identical light dome so swapped that and it works correctly, so this suggests either the switch or the wiring/electronics in dome unit.
Anyone got a spare switch !

One of there is a second hand domelights and swiotch on ebay right now . search in - mercedes w124 pre owned or if you can not find it tell me on here and i will find the item number .

Thanks, I found it, but as my unit is perfect I will get a switch from MB dealer, £35, just not taking orders at mo.

You wont go wrong for the price of the one on Ebay you could damage the dome light rempving it, and the one that i saw had both switches in there . For that you get the consol and both roof and light switch . And if you damage the dome removing it you would have that as well .Any way its your deal and you do what you think is right for you..

Lol, agree, but, that’s black and mine is cream........ I’ve taken it on an off so many times can do it in my sleep, other switch and both lights already replaced as they were u/s when I got car.
