I met someone last week who had a 2005 A class (A160 auto) and they were bitterly complaining how thirsty it was?

Anyone have some real world figures of what they should be expecting or what is the normal range for one of these?

I'm looking at this thread as I Googled A160 MPG. I'm getting about 30MPG out of my 02 plate semi-auto :( This is driving extremely conservatively on trips to work. About half hour each way with mixed 30 and 70 roads.

My wife has a 06 160 CVT...we have seen numbers between 28 and 55 depending on driving conditions. The car hardly sees the motorway..we managed something in late 40's (IIRC 47) on a stretch cruising at 70 on satnav. In town driving mpg is usually between 35 and 40 but would dip with heavy foot. These are realistic figures with our car.

On my A160 (7/2001 facelift W168 petrol automatic) I get about 40 mpg on 25 min trips with mixed 30 mph and 70 mph (at a rate about 1:4 timewise). The exact figures for last Saturday trip were: 22.5mi/26min/40.5mpg/£3.63/12.9lb*

Short runs on say, A508 - 4.8 mile 9 min trip, I got 43.1 mpg with average 60 mph and a few 40 mph roundabouts (this is actual readout of recent trip).

On short trips (4 miles / 10 min) I get 37.9 mpg with also mixed 30 and 70, although mostly 70, i.e. out of town centre and up A45.

Within city limits, with speedtronics on 30 mph, I get 25-27mpg, sometimes less, if the there's traffic. The lowest one I've seen was 16.9 mpg (1.7mi/13min/16.9mpg/£0.64/2.3lb)

Not the best figures, I'm sure, but I'm not too worried, also I don't really drive that much, so I use BP Premium Unleaded, however I'm not sure if it actually has that much impact on MPGs.

* As I have a Garmin ecoRoute installed, basically every trip gets recorded, so I can see distance, time, mpg, fuel cost and even carbon footprint

On my wifes A160 blueefficiency 2011 model we get on average 33MPG for very short trips (lower when it was cold by the way). On longer town trips we get 42+ and on Motorway (although we have not used it that much for longer trips) I have seen close to 45 between 70-75

I was loaned an A160 manual and I got over 40mpg from it, used about the same as my E320cdi. Was a rather good small car.

My wife had the A210 LWB W168 older shape in Manual.

I was always amazed that given it was 2.1L petrol it would do 45mpg.

The engine was very lazy, I sometimes think that the smaller engines when mated to a auto do make them very poor mpg. I mean I get 45 out of a S211 estate.

Assuming its diesel then 40ish combined real world id guess at.

Unless its some very late registered W168 petrol..
