A180 w169 2006 2.0 cdi
So first diesel , so my car when bang, did a search on web for closet car for sale to me upto a max price and ended up with the above. on face of it looked great black on black, leather Aveguard ect ect, no accidents, good history, just serviced, 2 keys, new mot ect, drove great everything seamed ok. Well all the main stuff was but as I lived with it the niggles started to show.

First time I put in reverse terrible noise, panic search web, whole list of issues posted on web, drive shafts ect ect, was one post about tyres sort of stuck in mind, anyway got a puncture on front, tyres a bit worn so thought I would fit 2 new ones, got a pair of good years fitted, and on first drive all noises gone! and have not returned in over 6 months, could not believe car was that sensitive to tyre wear.

Rear wiper washer not working, again looked at all post, thought start simple took of handle blue pipe there, order a jet from china lol for £1.50 fitted worked first time, new blade now all ok.

Forgot as was a merc I ordered a icarsoft for my car, just incase and is still in box lol

and then went shopping with daughter and boot would not open, everything else fine, had a look removed handle checked for corrosion, so have assumed lock needs replacing, no idea yet how to get to it or rear tailgate panel off but that's my next task.

So like many others not used car for a few weeks went out to start battery dead :-( found it under floor, thought ok ill just remove and charge, seam alarm don't want me to, but what I did notice was battery box was full of water, back to web as to why, could not believe that a blocked drain in Cabin filter box sent all water inside car, issue fixed in about 1 min, removed filter, reached under box to open up rubber drain by squeezing and pushed through block with other hand, what a crap idea if get blocked fills ya floor with water.

So battery still dead

Tail gate lock needs replacing.

Heater now for some reason only works on max defrost not other speed work, I had a close look at dash and can see faint signs on trim someone has had it off before for an issue

Oh and sat nav has no GPS and can set clock

Apart from that drives great.

Im in Loughton Essex and have a icarsoft MB V2.0, never used it no idea how to use it but told you need it some times, you welcome to borrow any time if ya tell me how it works.

I have replaced a few tailgate locks for the 169's before. one just two weeks ago. I have also replaced the controller for it (SAM unit) as it was causing the lock to burn out as it switched it permanently.

The blower issue is likely to be the blower regulator. Buy a good one as the cheap copies don't last or don't work.

Car soft is good but if you don't know how to use it or put it to good use you can get in a muddle with it. Its sometimes best to pay a good MB specialist near you to diagnose complicated stuff.

thanks not plugged isoft in yet as no idea how works, did notice the reg on web seams a common fault and looking at trim marks so did some one else but not sure as issues with sat nav in same area.

Battery is marked 2018 so not that old so im assuming needs a jump as car not moved for 3 weeks

as now out of work only have 2 choices, jumper pack from Halfords or a spare battery cant afford both.

looked on eBay but worried if that can jump a 2.0 cdi diesel .

Not sure what way to go, don't need car and sits for a long time, but when I need it its for medical emergency, so not sure if buy a new battery or a booster pack, battery only 2 years old

how long should it last not driven?

so battery issues fixed, called RAC they tested battery said was really bad, fitted a brand new one free of charge, battery was a Bosch 2 years old approx.

PS comes with free 5 year warranty

Had the B180 2007, probably the same engine and had no problems using a battery pack to start the car. Only minor annoyance was that the battery on the B Class is under the footwell drivers side :(

The RAC bloke who attended did try battery pack it would not start car, he did a report and was showing just 8 volts, guessing battery was so bad would not start. still surprised as was only 2 years old.

Interesting point even though had drained all of water using a syringe and bit of vacuum hose, was a few droplets left, he took one look at battery, popped bonnet and went straight to the drain in pollen filter box, which I had already pulled off. seams caught mine in time, he told me he's been to quite a few where they so bad had got into fuse box.

Took car on run for about 200 miles round trip yesterday, no issues with car, warnings ect

Reset trip, not sure how accurate the MPG reading was, but it quoted 50.1 mpg on 50/50 of A roads and Motorways, not bad I thought

Glad you're following government instructions to stay home

There's always one every forum

yes I was, and for record you don't know me or my circumstances, I don't feel need to explain or justify on a public forum about cars I don't feel need to explain on an off topic on a public forum to complete strangers, but do understand the need for some people suffering short comings the need to troll post and comment on situations they know fek all about. how mighty you must have felt making that comment and got your post count up 1 lol

Predictable response. This is what we're up against, people.

Your circumstances are of no interest to me, nor are they an excuse to be driving 200 miles during a national lockdown.

As for trolling, I've been a member of this forum for 6 years, you joined 8 days ago, just wanting advice after making a poor decision.

as for helping, you will see from posts I offered free use of my Icarsoft, I am asking and looking into preventive issues on car in wipers, poss filter am posting my progress on issues to help others, with info I gain I am learning and will pass on, new car so I have issues, clicky I am great forum members, I donT have time for, rear door lock now seams to be a few issues, I have order a lock if that fixes will post, but seams handle may be problem, wont know till I try. should I keep answer to my self to become one of you inner circle lol, it amazing that such pricks sill exist, yes newbie to this car, but unlike most I don't just want to fix I want to prevent
