My mate's A190 W168 ECU has just gone,
The Merc Specialist has told him a new one is £1500 and all his locks would need replacing etc but he could buy the car from him for £500 and strip for spares. hmmm
He also told him there is about 7 fault codes stored including MAF sensor - basically tellin him the car is a right off.
Any info greaatly appreciated
Thanks

Just a update on this-
If you look into the ECU on the W168 A-class the ECU & Mass Air Flow Sensor are a combined unit. 95% of problems is actually with the Mass Air Flow Sensor but most people just say "the ecu has gone" as it is a 2 in 1 combined unit.
Most ECU repair company's claim they can fix the A-class ECU as they know 95% of problems is with the Mass Air Flow side, they fix the Mass Air flow problem and the customer thinks the ECU has been fixed. BAA Reman state they can only fix the Mass Air Flow Side.
On my M8's A-Class the Merc Specialist had the car on his STAR diagnosis machine and it was definatly the ECU side that was at fault, he normally uses BAA Reman, hence him telling my M8 the ECU couldn't be fixed.
Anyway we phoned Automotive ECU suppliers and asked if they definatly fix the ECU side to which they said yes ! for £145.
The Merc Specialist sent the ECU off to them with a covering note explaining it was the ECU at fault and he included the fault codes.
After a few days Automotive ECU suppliers phoned and said they had fixed the Mass Air Flow Sensor !! :wallbash: He had to explain it wasn't the Mass Air Flow Sensor at fault but definatly the ECU. Anyway they said they'll get it back into the workshop which they did and then got it back to the Merc Specialist all fixed !
The Merc Specialist has now refitted the ECU and that is all good but there is a couple more problems showing now.

- A Accelerator Pedal Switch £112
also
-ABS ESP Module, part number 0034314512 - The Merc Specialist has told my M8 to source one himself used as they are expensive new - Dronsfield have them listed for £50 :)
He said the ECU will cost £149 + 1 hours labour.

So ECU sorted and got these other couple of problems to deal with and all should be good !
Thanks Again for all the info :thumb:
I'll update again when the car is finally back on the road ;)

Company called ECU Testing repair the ECU part as well, they are mentioned on Loftys home page. 15% discount when mentioning 'Loftys hompeage'.

You need to make double sure that the modules are not coded to the car , as a lot are.
