Hi, names Karl, I have a 2005 CLK240 convertible.
Central locking does not work from distance, only when fob is near to door handle (infra-red). Fuse number 8 in the boot keeps blowing.
Looking for advice on what to do next.

I don't know, I will try to find out. The radio fades in and out also. From info gleaned from the internet it appears it may be radio frequency reception.
The radio antenna also picks up the remote fob RF signal (Radio Frequency)
The fuse, I think, on your car, is also serving the alarm siren, if the alarm siren is faulty then it will blow this fuse 8.
The car is 11 years old so its likely the alarm siren has become faulty, alarm sirens all start to give trouble around this age.
Is there a Red flashing led on the dash when the car is locked to show that the alarm is armed?
Best bet is to unplug the alarm siren to see if fuse 8 stops blowing.
