My trusty C250CDi is approaching its 5th birthday and 43000 miles. The display has just come up with service A3 required.

It looks a fairly simple service, but MBs online service calculator says this is a £950 job, a B service plus change brake fluid & fuel filter (both done last year), air filter change and auto transmission oil & filter change, £64 and £345 respectively.

My question is that £345 seems a lot for the transmission work, is it amazingly complex or just MB dealer pricing. Is it the sort of thing my indy servicer could do?

The short answer is that I don't know.... but I think that your best bet would be to get this done at a specialist. Failing that, you could opt for a Mercedes Services Care Plan, seems like the right move actually given the amount of bits that need doing.

Two services will cost you £35 per months over 2 years. That's £840 in total - so £150 cheaper than your quite, plus you get the next service (Service A) for free.... it's no brainer :)

....plus change brake fluid & fuel filter (both done last year)...

On rereading... if the brake fluid and fuel filter where done last year, then surely they don't need doing again this year?

Don't trust the online service calculator. Mine showed I needed an ATF change when in fact it was done last year. Its best to go in and see a service adviser and if possible with your written service history which they usually give. I suspect the dealers are not updating the service done info correctly.

I think this is the answer. Basically an A service, plus optional other work. Some has been done recently. The ATF & filter change is recommended, and is something my Indy servicer can do. So sorted, and thanks all for the advice.

I recently purchased an 08 C300 4Matic sport, and the A3 service is coming up within the next 15 days. I have done a little bit of research, and it seems that the B service's entail the major maintenance. But i am not seeing much on what exactly the A3 service includes. Have any of your recently had this service performed and recall what was completed, or what i should be expecting?

A3 is Service A, plus air filter changer, plus fuel filter change (diesel only) or spark plugs change (petrol only). This is typically due every 4 years.

For example we charge £210. The oil is very expensive. It may not need an ATF though. If you have had air and fuel filters last year you wont need them this year. ATF is on services with a 7 or a 9. EG B7, A9.
