Well... there I was in the daily commute to work this morning. I was sat in stationary traffic on a mainish road. As I was approaching a junction with two side roads I leave a gap in the traffic (as I usually do in jams) so that other motorists can enter and exit the side roads off of the main road that I am on.

A Girl driver in a VW Polo sees me stopped and takes that to mean the whole road is clear so she darts out across the front of my car and *BANG* hits a Volvo 440 travelling in the opposite direction to me. He fishtails out of control and hits my stationary car and continues on and smacks a Rover 200 behind me too. &nbsp;Aaarrrrggghh!!! &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wallbash.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bash:'>

So in a matter of seconds and one driver's lack of basic observation 4 cars are significantly damaged. Grrr

Luckily my car is drivable, I feel sorry for the Volvo driver his car was a complete mess <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> and the front of the Rover opened up like a tin of beans attacked by a tin-opener. My insurance company seems cool about the whole thing but I'll reserve judgement until the whole affair is done and dusted, I have to pay a £150 excess but my insurance claims they'll pay that back once they get money from the driver to blame, I wonder how soon they'll change their tune.

Moral of the story? Don't give an inch on the roads and courtessy doesn't pay, better to drive like an a$$hole

Damned unlucky Steve.  I hope she had insurance <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Was there much damage to your motor ?? &nbsp;

EDIT: piccies hadn't loaded &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Dave,

Luckily all parties are insured and we all have each others details although technically only the Volvo hit my car.

Looks like I need a new rear bumper, rear-off-side wheel arch liner, some plastic panels that attach the bumper to the side of the car and of course some panel beating and re-spray work.

The Volvo was smacked all over... front, side and rear. His rear bumper was actually pulled off the car completely.

SOrry to see that dude .. Just keep telling yourself it will all be better soon ...

Ill guess that there is at least about £750's worth of damage there .

Two scrapes in my old mans car cost £400 to remove .... &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

First, sympathy - you do the right thing and get sh#t on - sorry to hear it.

Second, when something equally clear cut happened to me, I informed my insurer, but dealt directly over the phone with the insurer of the party at fault. (Norwich Union Direct)

They agreed to MB doing the repair, (my dealer took a digital photo, e-mailed to the assessor who agreed immediately) paid direct themselves, so no excess for me to pay and claim back, and also provided a free car for the period mine was off the road.

It's worth a try - the only hold-up in my case was that I was on to the guilty party's insurer even before they had reported it. But they rang back, said it was a clear admission of blame, and agreed to the procedure above.

It saves a lot of hassle and gives you a lot more control, so I'd have a go if I were you.

I guess your only potential problem is the chance of a wrangle
between the Polo and Volvo insurers. Try them both!

Good luck.

What a b**t*rd. Similar thing happened to my misses about a year ago. So annoying that you have to pay the excess for something that is not your fault and usually have to fight to claim it back.

Hope all goes well and you get it sorted quickly with little hassle.

Thanks guys,

The insurance's approved car repairer examined the car in the afternoon, they'll be contacting me again around Monday or Tuesday of next week. I just hate the car looking the way it does in the mean time <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Jimmy,

Great pics of your car in the gallery &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> and a cool signature/icon you have too. Hehe I maybe bias in my judgement though &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Cheers Steve, it is a nice colour I agree. As soon as I saw it at the dealer I thought yep thats the one for me. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Hope yours is back to how it should be asap.

that's more than a grands worth of damage IMO...

just the bumper alone from Merc is 700 pounds.

<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wallbash.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bash:'>

The rear quarter is the worst place to get hit! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

so unfortunate, you can be the carefulest driver in the world and some c.unt will come and hit you :/

In London I just learn not to give way to anyone like you just did, Unless its a merc <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>.... if it's a nice babe, she can bloomin wait (unless she has a merc)

Echo your points about driving in London K.!!

My driving style totally changes when I'm back in London.

D.amn I hate my car looking bent &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> I can't wait for the repairers to call next week.

S.

p.s. I'd also recommend fully comp insurance with no-claims protection, even though this wasn't my fault at least I'm not worried that my premium is gonna go through the roof next year.

I've had almost the same thing happen !

For the last couple of years I have driven like an arrogant B*W driver - ie only giving way when its legally required. - and not had any further problems.

If I'm feeling benevolant (not often&#33<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> - and wave someone out of a side road, 50% of the time they dont even acknowledge you these days - its almost a god given right to pull out in front of someone.

While I keep getting bad responses to acts of generosity and patience - the frequency of these acts will seriously decline.
