A second class ride is better than a first class walk, but the Audi would have been cattle class...

Have you seen the legroom in the back?...it really is non-existent.

I did like the Audi and had I not have test driven the mercedes think I would have been happy with the car. As it happens I drove them both for an hour within 30 minutes of each other down my normal test route. As soon as I sat in the Merc it felt the more natural place to be. Plus it was nicer to drive, had better brakes, was quieter. And I preferred the interior, the seat were are a lot nicer.

As for rear leg room. One thing I did insist on before ordering was to make sure I could get my 2 kids in the back and a passenger in front.

There is no legroom in either car in the back. But hey ho I always sit in the drivers seat so not an issue :) Plus the kids both fit.

Funnily enough, friend of mine has just blown his Evo 9 up, he didn't think it mattered to let the car cool down after nailing it about - garage soon told him otherwise and said to invest in a turbo timer

But hey ho I always sit in the drivers seat so not an issue :)

Same way that I think.. I don't intend on sitting in the back since I'd never let anyone else drive it!

I own and operate a lot of heavy industrial and agricultural machinery, and the turbos on such pieces are often the size of large dinner plates and cost £5k a piece.

All over the dashboard are warning signs saying "to protect the turbos -let the engine idle for 3 mins before turning off and also keep revs below 1000rpm upon start up until the oil is warm".

I've always done this and never had to replace a turbo.

Someone told me once, shutting off a hot turbo does two things :-

1. oil left in v hot turbo carbonises which over time blocks the oil gallery leading to oil starvation.

2. Shutting turbo off when it is spinning fast results in turbo 'bearing' wear as it will take a wee while to slow down and stop, all this time with no oil lubrication.

I spoke with Milton Keynes today and they said the new engine variant will be manufactured in the E coupe/convert from June/July onwards. They expect them to be in the UK for delivery early August.

There will be a bulletin released to all MB dealers in the next week or so. They also hinted that the prices may well rise at the end of July, so all new engines may be subject to an increase in price :(

Talking to two dealers they knew nothing about this at all :(

Info taken from MB Germany where the new 350 Cdi engine are for sale.

ML still uses the "old" 231bhp version. But the GL uses the new one....

However, the real surprise is the C class.... it now also has the 265bhp version. The "old" 231bhp is named C300 Cdi and only comes as a 4Matic model.

its amazing the difference in the quality of info from dealers. The email below is actually from the same dealership as the inso gleaned from above, its just that another salesman happened to see my email enquiry and try and steal the order himself, albeit 4days late !

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your enquiry, apologies for not responding quicker I have Wednesday as a day off and only picked your message up today.

I have checked with product marketing and that engine won't be going
into the e coupe or cabriolet only the saloon and estate.

Personally I would say that the current engine is very refined and extremely powerful. I would urge you to have a test drive so that you can see for yourself. When would you be available to do this?

As for time scale I would expect 60-90 days but would need to know when you would be ordering for a more accurate date.

I look forward to your response.

Kind Regards,
