Hi guys im new here, great forum. About to pull the trigger on a 03 reg clk55 from a mercedes main dealer, £14.5k, 45,000 miles, FMBSH, 1 year main dealer warranty, tansanite blue etc

Is this a good price from a dealer with the said warranty?

I have been on the look out for a low milleage clk55 for few months and most private sellers dont have warranty and are over 50-60k miles and go for just under 14k.

I think I just need some conformation from someone that Im not getting robbed with this price for this car.

Any help would be muchly appriciated as the dealer is due to call me back in a little while.

The warranty is worth a lot.

Amongst other minor things I've had a new front head-rest motor and a new CD changer fitted under Mercedes Used Car Warranty.

Thank you :thumb: Thats just what I needed to hear, I think i know what to do now as these cars come by very rarely at a main dealer with the approved used warranty.

I wouldnt say thats a bad price, remember, main dealer with 1 years warranty, low miles and a £5-£60k car new

Sounds reasonable, tier one warranty is excellent. What is the spec?

yeh thats the one, 3 previous owners, only had 2 services done 1st at 15k next at 34k and they will do another one before sale so 3 in total, sounds a little low to me?

As far as spec goes its all standard apart from command, sunroof and cd changer.

The only thing that concerns me is the lack of services its had.

They can go for 2 years between services so yes you are probably 1 shy of what would be expected. Make sure they change the plugs and air filters at the service.

The chap said they are only going to do a full fluid change, ie small interim service as he said its small service, big service, then small service, is that correct? I would have expected this 3rd one to be te big one?

I have a feeling they know a big service is due however they want to get rid of it and put it off.

I mean surely a 7 plus year old car should have the major service done, the badboy that costs over a grand?

Something doesn't feel right about this car, maybe its just me being sceptical as always, but 3 owners and 45k, only 2 services, hmmmmm I dunno!

But it does have a Tier 1 warranty....makes it difficult.

I did have an Audi A3 :ban:with calculated servicing requirements and at 45k miles it had only just had it's second service. When I got rid of it at 75k miles it had only ever had 3 services but it had been serviced totally in accord with the manufacturers requirements.

True, good point, btw mercedes tier 1 warranty is that basically what the 12 month used approved warranty is called?

I can't seem to make my mind up on this one yet:doh:

Tier 1 is the top warranty ... as good as the one you get with new cars. Tier 2 is a 'cut down' version for higer mileage vehicles (over 60k miles?).

When I had Tier 1 on my SL it even covered punctures! And if your car failed an MOT it covered anything needed to pass.

I bought my 2003 clk 55amg from a private seller for 13k it had done 58k miles. Its due an inspection 2 which I am about to book it in for but it has had a few major things done recently like brake disks and spark plugs changed and it has just passed an MOT.

So I would say 14.5k for a lower milage car from a dealer with a warranty is a good deal. I have to say my car is in very good condition and has almost all the options. It has a full MBSH.

I am pleased I made the purchase, its been a superb car so far and just does everything I want it to. (Apart from drink fuel).

think its a great deal, i bought a 2004 C55 from dealer with warranty and did have a few niggles to sort out such as heated seats (base only) & new amp as comand volume stayed at the same level. Also needed a new rear speaker as well. Mechanically it has been fine. I did renew the tier 1 for another year as well. You will love the car!

there is one on ebay 1/2 that price as the guy awaiting delivery of new merc, of course price will finish higher but much lower than what u r looking to pay check it out

So the dealer called me again today (desperate?) asking for a 500 quid deposit to hold the car. I told him i'm a little weary of a 7 year old AMG with only 2 services under its belt, despite only 45k miles.

He said let me check the computer system, called me back in 10 mins and told me how he was mistaken and that a 3rd service was also carried out only the stamp was missing from the book but it showed in the merc dealer computer! Hmmmmm.....don't really know what to think now?

My gut instict is that something isn't right!

Having told the salesman I can come tomorrow night to see the car and put depost down/pay for car there and then, he was insistant on a 500 pound holding deposit. I'm just not keen on putting any money down for something I haven't seen yet.

My problem is I am based in Scotland, the cars in London, aaahhhhh hate living in the middle of nowhere

fella, ive just spent the last 3 months going through the same thing. £14.5k for a car with this age and mileage AND Tier 1 - well, let's put it this way, if this was two weeks ago I'd be calling that MB dealer and sticking a deposit on it now :-)

I've got a 41k miler and it's only had 3 services also.

I'd get them to check to see what radiator it has - if its the valeo one, be warned - they are notorious for corroding, then you get glycol in the autobox then the torque converter gets chewed up. total nightmare.

Having said all that, you'd be covered for it with your top notch warranty. I bought privately and its going to cost me £2k plus to put it right.

Good luck!

PS call MB UK customer services directly to confirm. It's not beyond the realms of possibility for some dealer not to stamp the book...

00800 9777 7777 and yes there are two zeros at the start :-)

MB shouldn't be retailing a car under the approved scheme without a full MBSH.

Far from unusual not have the book stamped, the dealer should be able to confirm everything is ok
