eclass 320 avanti
Hi all
Please beare with me on this one as i am new here and hope i post in the right place lol.

Well i have a 2001 plate e class 320 avanti and have this problem.
When i turn the ignition on and start the car i have abs and esp light s showing up and not going out at all and also noticed my central locking not locking when i pull away, the light issue on the dash shows straight away even withing touching the brakes.

Now i have read quite a few postings and have replaced the brake light switch purchased from mercedes dealer in Epsom, i still have this problem and also tried the turning off steering wheel left to right lol. Now does anyone have any other ideas off what else could be the problem, i did have the car on a test and it showed brakelight switch as faulty and replaced as mentioned above.

Thanks
Dene

There must be a second fault with the car , try checking again . Or it could be that the fault needs to be cleared from the cars memory , although this is not likely .

hi there some times to clear some codes one the older models i.e w202 you can disconnect the battery for a while (doesnt work for all codes) might be worth a try and make sure you have any codes you might need e.g stereo. or get it code read

Sounds like it's probably a speed sensor.

Ok thankyou all for your replys.
This morning i had car put on a test and had any faults showing and cleared off and took for a test drive and then back on computer, now the only fault it is showing is a rear wheel right side speed sensor which i have just ordered from merc dealer in Epsom and will be fitted tom morning sometime, will let you all know the outcome tom fingers crossed lol.

Thanks

Well here goes my final posting on problem. As mentioned in previous post i was going to get my new speed sensor fitted today. Bad bad bad news i got when mechanic took off wheel and inspected before going any further. Basically the part which the speed sensor reads when wheel is in rotation was actually split in several places around it and had moved from its fixed position, hence this was causing the sensor as faulty on the computer. I phoned my local mercedes dealer for a new rear drive shaft and was gob smacked by the price of £652.00 plus vat, so straight onto my pc and hunting for a second hand drive shaft, I eventually located one after around an hour on internet from a salvage yard in dartford who was stripping identical motor, so a round trip it was for me of 3 hours and fraction of the cost off £70.oo. for the drive shaft. Gave it to the mechanic who stripped it and cleaned it all up and located back onto my e320 Avante, computer back on codes all cleared and took for a test run and wow all is ok and back to normal. So the total bill was £70.00 plus £45.00 labour. Now has anyone ever heard of this happening and also before you go off buying new sensors check this part first to sav time and money, so tom i am back to mercedes returning speed sensor with a 15% surcharge.

Thanks all

thanks for the final chapter - could have been worse! i have heard of these rings splitting too, the problem is rust beneath them forcing them apart.

You can buy "exciter rings" off the Internet (google it)
Alot cheaper although I have not fitted or replaced any myself!
And do not know how they will fit after all the rust comes off
Might be worth a try .

hi, even though it was the drive shaft that was at fault, did your brake lights still work. i have fitted 2 BLS and still getting the same problem. its ok when i first drive off every day but after 20-30 mins the fault comes back. how many speed sensor are there on w210.

There is a wheel speed sensor on all 4 wheels.
