I had a problem today when my C180 1997 model got ABS light switched "ON" suddendly and never gone till yet. Simultanously the Cruise Control is also stop functioning. Can any one know is there is any link between the two.

Possibly a faulty brake pedal switch.

Is it the BAS / ASR light ?

If so, try turning your steering wheel all the way to the left, and then all the way to the right with the engine running, then back to centre, switch off, and see if it's gone away.

That might reset it ... I have the same issue at the moment ... suspect the brake switch.

ABS cruise control

I have a C180 1997 also with the same problem but both problems did not happen at exactly the same time. Firstly the cruise control stopped working - I fitted a new break switch with no effect. A few weeks later the ABS warning light came on and has stayed on. I think there must be some link between ABS and cruise control but have no explaination. Is there some way to reset the cars computer? Did you have any battery problems? My problems started after I had the car off the road for a few months while I was abroad and when I returned the battery was dead and had to be replaced as it could not be recharged! Then the Cruise control stopped working and later the ABS light came on permenantly.
Please let me know if you get anywhere with the problem. I have spoken to a Merc workshop but they knew nothing and only offered that I bring the car in and they would put it on their computer - that is definately my last resort as we all know what that would cost.

Cruise control depends on ESP readings, ABS does also. So the fault lies with ESP. You need a mechanic to install an ESP repair kit. That will fix both problems.

Hi all,

Had the same problem on my 2000 C200 sport, turned out to be an ABS sensor on the front, changed it (£30 from merc) and all has been fine since!!
