I have a 1992 300GD, the ABS light stays on and I was wondering the best way of fault finding the fault.

Hi, have you got an OBD connection ?

Not sure on your car, probably low down or under the extreme right of the dash. Location may also be in your handbook/

More likely than not it'll be Mercedes proprietary 38pin OBD at that age. You'll either need STAR, or an LED blink reader.

Start off with a visual, look at the pump, make sure connectors are clean and above all, connected. Take a look at the wheel sensors, make sure they too are fully plugged in and the connectors are free from water ingress. Did the light come on while you were driving or just stayed on one day after starting? Are the brakes working as they should under normal braking?

I’m not sure how long the abs light has been on for in all honestly as it has been off the road whilst it has have a full restoration. We have changed the brakes and the shoes on the back so it might be worth me doing a visual check first. I am trying to see if it has a OBD

Have a look in the fuse box under the centre armrest if you have one!
