“Absent Friends!”

“Absent Friends!” There are brought to mind again
The scent of the buddah-bush after the rain;
The dawn in the eastward, the death of the stars,
The wet grass that reaches the cold stirrup bars;
The beat of the horse-hoofs that waken the day;
The jest and the laughter that shorten the way!

So Past with Present gaily blends,
And merrily, with three times three,
We drink to “Absent Friends!”

“Absent Friends!” How those words in a wondrous wise
Can conjure the lovelight in beautiful eyes;
The sound of her voice that was tender and sweet,
The trail of her robes and the fall of her feet;
The moods that could move us to joy or to tears
In the Love of our youth in the long-ago years!

And each one now his greeting sends,
As earnestly, with three times three,
We toast our “Absent Friends!”

“Absent Friends!” -- And a home that is over the sea;
White snow on the uplands, white rime on the tree;
The faces we cherish, whate’er be our lot;
The clasp of the hands will be never forgot;
The friends of our boyhood who gather and pass
In the misty reflection of Memory’s glass!

Our heart across the ocean wends,
And loyally, with three times three,
We toast our “Absent Friends!”

“Absent Friends!” -- The lost legion that lies in the grave;
29The friends who were false and the friends we forgave, --
Whose words had the edge of the enemy’s knife,
To torture the heart and to poison the life; --
The friends who lay dying and never could know
That we loved at the last as we loved long ago!

So each across his wine-cup bends,
And silently, and tearfully,
We pledge our “Absent Friends!”

RIP Ian 'Smitty' Smith, a very good friend tragically taken away at the age of 31.
Meet you on the other side, pal.

My dad, best mate, eventually - gone too soon but never forgotten.

Line em up, mate - we'll put the world to rights

To Mr D.C a good friend taken at a young age of 29 in a motorbike accident. R.I.P mate

Nigel, you drunken Irish sod and great mate, you will be very much missed.

To absent friends indeed.
Each new years eve i raise a toast,on the anniversary of the death of a great man. A man who was gentle yet brave , calm in a crisis ,and taught me the values of family and friends . New Years Eve 1988 was a sad day for many.

Cheers Dad

You touched a spot there Godot. A really nice warm spot - (my pain is not a raw as has been) Yes they are gone but the music you added has brought me some peace.

Thank you.
May your God go with you (As a great man used to say)

Had a couple of rough years recently.

Christmas Eve 2009. Got the horrific news that a very close friend and work colleague passed away from a massive heart attack. As an adult man of 44, I broke my heart at my desk that day.

Christmas Eve 2010. Attended the funeral of my best mate's father who passed away on the 19th.

I'm not looking forward to next year .......................

For anybody that has had a personal tragedy this year, remember the good times and always raise a glass to pay homage to those that make you a better person.

Apply the good values they had that align with yours and always remember the important.

Life is a finite thing and we cannot go back to change things. Do the very best you can each and every day to make the journey as good as you can for yourself and all you meet in your travel through life. Educate and enjoy.

Never regret.

I recently lost a life long friend from a rare form of cancer, she was only 38, and was like a sister i never had.
She battled with her illness for a long time having being given 6 months to live she survived a further 18 months and has as an inspiration to all including her doctor who said to her that she had never met someone so upbeat and positive about her illness, she would never say she was dying of cancer, but living with cancer.
I just hope i can live the rest of my live with only half of her strength she showed.
Rest in peace Shaza, i,ll never forget you. xxx

Sadly,too many to mention but none forgotten RIP.
