Ac/ec button is constantly on and no cold air is coming out in 1997 C 280 Mercedes Benz.
This car had a new compressor put in about 9 months ago worked fine for 3 months then the car was parked for 6 months. After that the Ac worked but not great so we injected dye to find a leak but we could not so we drained the system then recharged worked Ok for about 2 weeks. Now the EC button is on all the time and no cold air is coming out.
Thanks.

Can't help I'm afraid, but someone will know

Customary to introduce yourself 1st by the way :)

My bro had this problem, could be the same as yours but was sorted by a pollen filter change (his was very dirty) and ac re-gas

There are cars out there where the sensors go wrong and have to be replaced, I do have a list of the effected cars but cannot get hold of it till next week.

maybe it can be locked into an info thread.

The cost of this should not be too bad as the gas in the system can be recovered

Have you looked at the condensor? It is the most common place for a leak. Split the rad and condensor apart and have a look inside. Otherwise the other most common cause is the evaporator temp sensor going wrong.

I bet you still have a leak.

If the EC button is constantly on, that means that cooling is not available, and that in turn is in many cases because of a lack of gas in the system. Have you checked whether or not the system is under pressure?

Ac/Ec

Hi Gentelmen,
I am so glad I became a member you all gave me great ideas but I would like to tell you that I managed to reset the AC by holding down the EC & Rest Buttons and cool air came out. I was very happy but upon turning the car off and on again the same problem occured and the Ec button was on and no cool air ,so I had to rest it again and it worked. Now I know for sure that somthing is wrong but at least not the compressor. Any Ideas?

If the light is lit on the Ec button, does that not indicate economy mode and turn the a/c off?

Ac/Ec

Yes it does turn it off but when I reset th Ac as I explained above cool air comes out and it works as long as I do not turn the car off & on again.

Also check duo valves are shutting off hot water (default normally on.)

Bazzle

Two little valves under the bonnet that control the amount of coolant that enters the heating system.

Hi Guys,
Any one knows how to retrieve DTC codes (AC) 1997 C280 and delete them. I have the procedure for E320 but it did nit work on the C280.

Go to a specialist merc mechanic and they can read them for you. i don't know of any other way.

Thanks.
