Accelerator Pedal Stuck

I'm starting to get a problem with my W202 where the gas pedal gets stuck. More specifically, upon raising the pedal (coming off the gas), it comes almost all the way up and then gets stuck somehow, only to pop back the rest of the way about half a second later. It's only about a millimeter and doesn't have any effect on the speed, so it's not dangerous, just really annoying.
It usually happens when I start off driving, but stays for quite a while untill it seems to 'wear away' and becomes smooth again. Perhaps it's something to do with the cold?? I was wondering if anyone had the same problem, or if anyone knows how to fix it.

If you look at where the cable terminates in the engine bay, it should be covered with a liberal dollop of grease, maybe you need a top up? Is the sticking definitely at the pedal end, or where the cable passes through the front bulkhead or at the business end in the engine bay? I would find that out then take it from there. Ooh just had another thought... the pedal itself is joined to the arm near the top of the pedal via a flimsy plastic split pin, I'd check that out for free movement too.

I had this problem right when I got my car back from the stealer after a service. Noticed it as soon as I drove off! Took it back, and they fixed it within 2 minutes; no idea what they did though :(

I had exactly the same irritating promlem on a CLK. It was where the cable passed through the bulkhead. It was fiddly to get at but I had to loosen the fixing bolts and realign the mounting.
