Accuracy of Speed Measuring Equipment

why did he admit it anyway. if they got the speed wrong, the whole case should bre thrown out

Article says is was a distance-time device, so would assume it was VASCAR, Pilot or similar. Doesn't say how it was used.

Amazing how the car disappears off to Germany pretty quickly after the event.

The report also said that they had failed to prosecute two seperate motorcycles on the same stretch of road doing 200mph+, because they couldn't catch them?????

I don't think so. AFAIK they only need to prove he was speeding, not the exact speed, but anyway they got him on Dangerous Driving which is worse anyway.

Handing him a £5,000 fine and two-year driving ban, Judge Andrew Hamilton said: "May I make it absolutely clear that had you been driving at 150mph you would have been going immediately to prison.

So drive at 149mph and you don't go to prison.

Smart message to others eh, Judge Andrew Hamilton.

Prison for this guy should have been the only outcome :(

Which they could not as they could not get the speed right. As for dangerous driving, that is debatable when you cannot get the evidence of speed right.

To prove he was speeding, you have to get the speed which they could not. while i do not condone speeding, there are far too many miscarriage of justices when it comes to road enforcement laws.
Your honour, he was going over the speed limit. I do not know what speed he was doing, but it certainly was too quick. What type of prosecution is that?

No need for all the hi tech measuring devices then. Just note all cars you think are speeding and prosecute.

not if you can prove the officer is misleading the court or has mislead it in the past

Are you saying that is the case here, if not why say it as it's not applicable.?

I do not know the facts of the case but i am assuming some malfunction of equipment has occured so a random figure has been plucked from the sky. I may be wrong as i do not know all the facts, but anyone who thinks an elise can reach that speed, must need to be seriously checked out.

Like i said i may be wrong.

It has been proven many times before that you can get a machine to read whatever speed you like.
A building has been snapped at 30mph before

A very dangerous road!! There's lots of farms, caravan sites and small turn off's which mean there's always a good chance you'll exit a bend to find someone waiting to turn right. I've seen many near misses and the aftermath of serious head-on's.

It would be interesting to know the spec of the Lotus:rolleyes:
.

I can remember a case like this about 4 yrears ago when a FIAT punto or something like that was clocked at 120+ mph. the driver went to court and the car was road tested at the top gear track. The case was thrown out as the car could not get to that speed. i may have got the car wrong but ...........go figure

In extreme cases such as these, maybe the car should be confiscated on the spot to ensure no tinkering can be done to slow down the vehicle in question prior to it being speed tested.
