Active Brake Assist Not Working , Car Stopped

I was driving on the M6 this morning and an orange warning message came up, can't quite remember exactly but it was to do with the Active Brake Assist, showed the symbol of the car with some zigzag like skid marks and said ABA not functioning consult owner's manual and the car slowed down to a halt. Just managed to get it into one of the emergency laybys 1m before the Sandbach turning. RAC came out under my MB Service Plan, did a diagnostic check and no codes except one which showed as permanent and was to do with Eco mode stopped engine.

Yesterday I drove home and was down to the red light for fuel and stopped at home for a few hours before going to fill up. I was probably down to about 1 litre as I put 65L in the tank. Not sure if this might have had any effect but why would fuel level being low affect the ABA system?

Anyway I had a choice of a recovery vehicle taking me to MB dealer or trying the car to see if the RAC fault reset had cured the problem, or in fact just stopping for an hour and restarting had 'cured' it. RAC guy got the lane 1 shut and we set off, all seems ok and I drove the remaining 20 miles to work.

This seems crazy that the car is brought to a halt because the ABA doesn't work, even though the brakes were fine.

Has anybody had any similar experience and gotten to the bottom of this?

Cheers

I'm really surprised that after >100 reviews of this message nobody has replied with any comments/answers?

Come on technopeeps, offer me a solution.

Cheers

I'm on the mobile app so can't easily see your vehicle details. I don't know anything about ABA either, but could you put your car, year, how long you've owned it, and any other relevant information in your reply? E.g. does the car have any sort of collision avoidance options like some of the Audis do?
Any recent work done on the vehicle? Brake pad and disc condition?

Edit: and it might be bots viewing pages trying to scrape data

Car is as per my user info E220D SE Premium Estate 2017. 42,000 miles. Serviced c. 2k miles ago at MB main dealer. No work done on brakes or anything related. Switched to full set of winter tyres a few weeks ago, TPS kicked in automatically to record new tyres.

RAC used computer to check and clear all faults. Found one fault marked as permanent that he couldn't clear, something to do with Eco mode. I normally drive in eco, switched to Comfort for a few hundred miles, all seems ok, now using Eco/Comfort according to roads.

One thing is I let the fuel run down to about 20 miles worth but I can't see how this would affect the Active Break Assist.

Don't think I have collision avoidance, although I nearly pranged it on the M6 last night when a big van came to a grinding halt in front of me, I was just looking in my wing mirror as he braked so I missed the start of his braking, brake alarm came on, I hit the brakes but was going to run into the back of him, I knew I had nothing to my left as I had just looked, so I just managed to swerve left into the middle lane and missed him by about 6 inches, not sure if the collision avoidance assisted me in steering out of trouble. Proper squeaky bum time!!

If you can't find an answer from this community then it will be best to as a professional auto mechanic.

All this started after you put the winter tyres on ?
no, nothing to do with the winter tyres, happened c. 10 months ago as well, very briefly on an A road, pulled over, switched off and restarted and all was ok. I informed the MB dealer where I have it serviced, they didn't know of anything like this happening and couldn't find anything although they didn't check for any error codes
