Active brake assist sensor theft

Hi all,

The last two days I was getting a warning on the dash 'Active Brake Assist Functions limited'. A search on the internet led me to believe someone may have stolen a sensor from behind the front Mercedes badge.
I was horrified to discover screwdriver marks next to the merc sign and after removing the badge which had been replaced loosely I found there was no sensor and just loose wires (see image).

I can't afford to take this to Mercedes for a repair so will try to fix it myself.

Please can anyone advise on what parts I need to get and will it need calibrating?
Has anyone done anything to their car to prevent this from happening?

My car is a 2018 C220d SE saloon. It has parking assist and cruise control (not adaptive)

Thank you

I've heard of this happening before, apparently the part is £500 or so and availability is sketchy. Which would explain why they're stolen.

Not surprised these are being stolen. My Dad had a faulty one on his 2018 C Class last year and waited nearly a year to get a replacement due to shortages.

I remember reading that MB modified the badge on the front grille on later models to make it more difficult to remove without proper tools. So MB seem to be aware of the issue. Sadly, if you buy a second hand one on eBay, you may (in theory) be buying back your own stolen radar sensor....

I think my only option will be to buy a used one due to cost :(
