hi guys.
Just did a strut change on the W203 C240.
Looking to replace the bolt and nut which goes through the shock.
The part from 2002 has two individual washers... ( these are from my car )

I have just been to Mercedes and I have requested replacement parts. They found the ones for my car, however the design seems to have slightly changed. There is now a built in washer on the nut, but none on the bolt itself. Photos as follows ( this is off another topic, however the OE number is identical, so I assume this is what I will receive, they also told me no washer is included).

Question is, is it necessary to add a washer to the bolt? Or will the one "built-in" washer on the nut do the job ?

Thanks

Shouldn’t the fat sections of the cables be clipped into the clips in my top left of the picture .

Yeah that photo was just before removing the strut, I had to move the clips/cables out the way, this is how they are now the job is nearly complete ( I am waiting on a replacement bolt and nut because the threads were bad on the one shown in the photo.. )
Here is the current photo.. IMG_1180.png

Having recently done this job myself on my own 2006 S203 C class , there is no washer .

Thanks, Yeah i have seen that diagram. I just wanted some opinions on whether to use a washer on the round side of the bolt as Mercedes seem to have stopped supplying them with the part.

Adding a suitably sized washer to the bolt head is fine in my opinion as long as it doesn't compromise the amount of thread sticking out the nut to any meaningful degree, its something I would do, then again I tend to over engineer every thing.

Looking at the diagrams and photo - The functionality of the mounting is no different whether or not there is a washer.
Personally - I would put a washer there - But - That's just me.
The suspension geometry will be unaffected either way.

Thanks everyone. I decided to play it safe and use a washer. Now I have two fresh struts on my car, installed by myself. Happy with that 👽
