Hi,

I've just taking delivery of my w203 and I would like to add TV to the comand system. Can anyone tell me how easy a job it is and what I need to buy (hopefully on ebay)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You need a specific TV Tuner. The install is depending on your car's configuration. It's a question of prewiring.

Thanks Tropico.....how do I find out what sort of wiring etc. (sorry if its a dumb question!)

Hi,

I'm not a specialist, but I'll try to give you some information.
The TV Tuner location is in the trunk. That means it has to be connected to the Comand via optic fibers and traditional wiring too.
Some cars are prewired from the factory, some others are'nt.
That what i tried to tell you.
The best way, is to ask your MB dealer or a specialist.

You need -
* TV tuner
* bracket
* trunk liner
* main wiring harness
* antenna replacement
* some coding

Let me know if I can install this for you in July when I travel to the UK. Should there be enough work I would make it an annual event.

I wish I hadn't seen this thread as I'm likely to end up spending more on accessories than I did on the car itself :(

I have a facelifted 2000 W208 CLK and have just had a Comand unit fitted. It seems such a waste that I have a button marked TV that doesn't do anything and a six year old son that would just love to watch TV in the car.

Is the TV tuner a specific Mercedes model as I haven't seen one advertised anywhere and does the car need to have anything prewired as I don't think that I have the telephone prewiring (another button that doesn't do anything)

Sorry if the questions are a bit basic

DVD Player

Hi Miro,

I am only interested by the DVD player. Do you have any solution that does'nt need TV Tuner ?
Thanks

I will have a Video iPOD solution next year which eliminates the TV tuner requirement. As it stands this moment it is as depicted.

I have 2 of the old-school tuners for the W208 and there is also a digital kit from MBENZNL made in NL. Then there are these rather cheap and nasty units on eBay.

Just decide which is best for you and I will do my best to advise a likely installation method. You may consider putting me on the July list for install as I will be in the UK at that time.

I did this to my CLK55 a long time ago, and wrote it up - trouble was I had no digital camera, and thus its not that useful write-up .. I put everything in the 'stock' locations but at the time made the TV tuner bracket from a E class one as the CLK class one was not listed on the EPC - it was added to EPC later though

Look at http://www.mercupgrades.com

I think it could be made easier with an aftermarket loom (such as Audiocomp one) and putting the tuner somewhere near the front (rather than behind the rear passenger's door arm-rest (well, theres no door, but thats a good description)

The trouble you may have is that CLK's that were ordered without COMAND don't necessarily (I think they almost all do not) have the TV antenna in the rear windscreen .. so you'd have to have after-market TV antenna (or accidentally get Autoglass to replace it with the correct part with the TV aerials, in the correct tint!) (blue or green)

Cheers

You must be speaking of the W208. The W209 has all of those things.
