I have reasons to believe that the OP may have deleted (or tried to delete) his user account due to the initial welcome and responses in this thread. If he does read this, I do hope he comes back, it's all banter and we're all good sorts, really.

I agree - not sure if some of the reponse in this thread was warranted? Be nice people, be nice!!!

I suppose the irony is that this is the most welcoming (and allowing) forum I’ve ever joined so if he’s struggled with this one then maybe motoring forums aren’t the best place for him. I recall he got a touch sensitive when one or two members baulked at how much he paid for the PPF too.

I hope he does “come back” though, I’d be interested to see how his E63 ownership pans out but fully understand his reasons for leaving if that's how he feels.

The (occasional) Sniff Petrol column on car forums is not far off the mark :D

Tried to post a direct link to one but the column name contains a 'blocked word' so doesn't work ... see "Ask A Total ***** From An Internet Forum":

Loved this one, sounds very familiar:

Dear A Total ***** From An Internet Forum,
I noticed you the other day saying that your Mazda3 was “class leading” although I have been unable to find any contemporary road tests that placed it ahead of its rivals. Links below to reviews of your car and its competitors. Since I’m here, I saw you also described Boris Johnson as “the strong leader Britain needs”, which struck me as odd since he has been defeated on every major commons vote so far and reneged on several promises (links to evidence in Telegraph, Guardian, Times and Bloomberg stories below). Is this the same as when you claimed no-deal Brexit was “no problem” and that everyone just needed to “get behind it” to make it a “resounding success for a better Britain” despite me posting 27 links to a variety of news and analysis stories from around the world that provided no evidence for this and in fact illustrated that all indications are the exact opposite?
DT, Oxford

A Total ***** From An Internet Forum replies…

I don’t have time to debate this with you. Your tone is extremely offensive. Blocked and reported.

"I don’t have time to debate this with you." Love it, but it's basic meaning is 'I've come unarmed to a battle of wits', I think.

Toryboy and on the ignore list, I wonder if they read this forum?

I rang them today to look for a new insurance to declare my PPF and other slight modifications.

FIrst the typical 'New Windows' sales technique - quoting a silly price before eventually going down.

So anyway, this is for my e63S so I declared PPF and de-chrome bits, and here is how the call went

Me: Bla PPF, Chrome Bits
AF: That's fine
Me: Do you need the value
AF: No, not necessary
Me: So isn't there any maximum value you insure modifications
AF: No, it's fine

Then eventually I got my papers and because I am pedantic, I actually read the lot (and cry about the fact that even if I don't keep it I am likely £80 out of pocket).

Here is what worries me.

a. Under modifications, there is only the PPF - which they put down as vinyl - that I don't care about - sort of .. most quotations don't seem to have PPF specifically in their database
b. Value noted for said modification : £0 << That's the first thing that bothers me
c. No de-chrome noted
d. Current mileage (never asked me) : 99999

I sent them an email asking WTF but no response yet. But I am tempted to just ring them tomorrow and cancel again because I have the dreaded feeling, when it comes to that - they either a. won't cover my mods or even worse, b. cancel the policy as there are quite significant errors in it.

Has anyone got experience with AF and modifications and actually read the papers and confirm similar ?
PPF ??? Pension Protection Fund or any number of other acronyms on the internet, none relevant to cars .

What are we talking about ? Some sort of performance upgrade ?

Say what.

I explained exactly what the modifications are and I merely paraphrased here to not have a 2000 word thread. I explained step by step what was done and as a car insurer you should be able to understand what Paint Protection Film is and what it means to paint door handles.
In terms of confusion, surely if you tell someone 'door handles have been painted black that used to be chrome' and it doesn't show up in the policy - then yes, it is their fault. And if an advisor doesn't understand what I am talking about - then ask.

Another guy here replied to the original thread that he retrofitted COMMAND and the policy said 'Boost Valve Update' ... Whose fault is that - the guy who tried to explain COMMAND or the insurance to add some random fact because he didn't understand it.

Adrian Flux are advertising themselves as an insurance for 'heavily modified cars'

"Adrian Flux is the UK's largest specialist motor insurance broker, covering everything from classic and vintage cars, right through to heavily modified sports cars.".

Sorry but if they don't understand what PPF or painted door handles is then they are in the wrong business.

And whether or not this is 'messing about' with a standard car is surely subjective. Calling applying PPF to a 100k car 'mess' is a bit ... over the top.
Ah , now we know what you’re talking about .

Cost has nothing to do with taste - a car can be a mess at any price .

Some did comment you’d have problems with insurance after your mods...

That said a bit of cling film hardly counts as a significant error..

AF are known as a comedy of errors - prepare to be fleeced if you cancel..
He has the right to cancel within 14 days .

I think members might be surprised who does visit this forum but keeps low key.

Nobody important I hope, I have been talking nonsense for years.
That explains a lot, for instance why you’re still driving with S-Classes and 7-Series. You should get yourself a Mazda3 with Sky Activ control, or if you’re not interested in cars or driving - and you clearly aren’t if you drive those oversized nob extenders - then get yourself a Honda Civic Type-S, because if that doesn’t get your pulse racing then you’re past it grandad. That car is so good that when the time came for me to change the only car I could even consider was a Mazda3 Sport Nav, anything else - like a 7-series - would have been a major step backwards. The last thing I need is a nob extender, everyone who knows me - and that’s everyone, I have a lot of friends, and definitely more than you - knows I have plenty of nob in me already.

Look...I'm confused (not for the first time). Do you really like these Mazdas and Hondas or is your tongue very firmly pressed against your cheek. It's just...this is the second post in the same vein? Am I out of the loop..if yes...WHY?

And, if anyone says "golden"...

That’s the trouble with people today. They want everything handed to them on a plate. Let me Google that for you grandad, or click on Bill’s link for you and then explain it. I’m not here to spell it all out for you. I’m here to talk about driving, talk about driving amazing cars, like my Mazda3 Sport Nav with Sky Activ control. Now that’s a car worth talking about, and you’ll definitely want to read about. But we don’t have time for that because we have suffer endless questions from people like you who should know better. I’m done with answering questions, so HOW DO I DELETE MY ACCOUNT????!!!!????? I haven’t got time for this. I’m going to drive my M3SN.

A used S-Class is basically the safest car you and your family can be in for not a lot of money ; and one of the most comfortable and relaxing places you can be .

I don’t care what other people think .
