I just had my renewal through and to my surprise I had zero NCB (no claims were ever made). OK I though maybe it was a error, so I rang them to explain and was shocked to hear that my policy does not accumalate NCB and that my premium will be the same as last year!

I was not informed of this when I took out a policy with them nor does my current policy schedule or wording mention this at all. When I asked them where this was written they simply said "it's our standard policy on the classic scheme"...wtf! I then spoke to their supervisor who also said the same thing. I was so heated at that point I told them to cancel my policy straight away. Has anyone heard of this kind of policy before? It's certainly new to me, sounds like I have been mis-led.

Now I want to persue this matter further to have my NCB re-instated where do I stand and how do I go about filing a complaint?

most agreed value/limited mileage classic policies don't offer NCB as far as I am aware.

You may struggle to get a deal as good as Adrian Flux was offering, after all they specialise in this market

Good luck and if you find an alternative that gives the same amount if cover with NCB I'd like to know about it so please keep me posted

Cheers

Andy

My SL is insured with Adrian Flux, on a classic policy, and yes you do not receive any NCB.

This is standard for Classic Policies - mine have had the same.

When renewing, it is possible to go to another insurer and your ncb will have disappeared at the same rate it accumulated, so if you had 12 months with Flux, you will have lost 12 months ncb.

:(

oh well, the absence of NCB business may well suit some but it's not for me considering that I'm paying a four figure sum to insure my car the NCB makes a huge difference.

When I insured my Campervan with Fluxy, I was told that they would keep a record of how much NCB I came with, and how long I had been with them, so that if I went elsewhere in the future, they would provide me with a letter stating these facts. A few years back I had a Chevette insured as a classic (I kid you not!) and did exactly the same. When I left that company, sure enough, a letter was provided and this was accepted by my new insurance company (Churchill I think) on a regular car. Just have a chat with them.

Is it still four figures with Flux?

Have you tried any of the mainstream insurers?

I know just because one insurer is cheap for one person, it doesn't mean it's cheap for another, but Directline seem really competitive on high performance cars in my experience. Worth a try if you have to shop around any way.

By the way if you really believe you have grounds for complaint then the Financial Ombudsman should be able to help.

If you go down this route get your complaint in writing to them, specifying a date by which you expect a response. Use a straightforward and relaxed tone for best results, but make you expectation absolutely clear.

If you're not satisfied with the resultm then write them another letter, again with a deadline, and state that if the situation is not resolved to your satisfaction then you see no alternative other than to involve the Ombudsman.

That should them to do whatever they can, before it turns into more hassle for them!

Finally, do some digging around for a named contact - ideally someone very senior or someone responsible for service/complaints. The former will just want it sorted to avoid the hassle, and the latter will have targets to meet!! ;)

I hope this is of some use.

Well when I insured my car - I had no NCB as it was a Company Car - my broker got me full NCB + protected with NU - all I had to do was state that I hadnt had an accident for 5+ years ....£324 for a group 17 or is it 18 car....

Flux wanted just over £1k for renewing my SLK without any NCB 33 years of age and limited to 5k miles a year.

I then called Admiral who is my current insurer for my other car (Honda Jazz), they quoted me £1050 for insuring both my cars on their Multi-Car policy each earning seperate NCB (protected), 10k miles a year for each car :bannana:

They basically transferred my 5 years NCB from my Jazz to the SLK in order to come up with this price.

Good to know that the mainstream insurers have started to become more competitive in the market now.

I happen to be insured through Adrian Flux on a standard policy with business use.
This policy does carry NCB.

I then called Admiral... Good to know that the mainstream insurers have started to become more competitive in the market now.

When I bought my CLK, I had no NCB as my previous cars had been in my (now ex) wife's name. Admiral were by far the best, covering me for £480ish, not bad at all.

I've just been looking at classic policies for my SL, which is now 10 years old and does under 3k miles a year. Found nothing yet to beat the normal policy it's on with Elephant (Admiral).

Wil

I am surprised your SLK is on any classic scheme as surely it is not old enough.

Any comments ?

So am I, it was a catch to tempt me onto this scheme without explaining it properley. I had no idea it was a classic policy all they said was limited miles. I've gone through all the policy details and nowhere it mentions you won't accumulate NCB either, they have let me down so I'm won't be using them in the future.

Well I must confess this post benefited the Gollom household :D

Mrs. Gollom's 1992 300E is up on Friday and renewal with Lloyds TSB is £311 for TPFT on 3K miles, non-protected NCD - and that is without any load for a recently acquired SP30 3 points (don't go there!)

Adrian Flux quoted £245 for TPFT on 3K miles with protected NCD and some additional personal accident insurance at Norwich Union - and yes, came clean about the 3 points

Did try quite a lot of other companies both independantly and also through one of the 'compare' sites - only 1 other came anywhere near! How can premiums differ so wildly? Highest was well over £600!

So thanks Wil :bannana:

I was insured by Adrian Flux up till this year on a limited mileage, agreed value policy for my Quantum.
Always good service & prices till this year but they got beaten by quite a bit by Footman James without the mileage limitation & as a added bonus I got breakdown cover thrown in.

Neither policy has NCB but in fairness to them they made that very clear at the outset.

something weird there. My E320 costs less than that to ensure fully comp with business use, 15k miles and 4 years non protected NCB with Direct Line
