Hi Guy's, can you give me some pointers on what to look out for on a 1984 280 SL. Is there anything in particular that trouble these ?

All help appreciated :thumb:

In the main RUST! Mechanically they are pretty sound (subject to the usual checks) but have a good look around the bodywork. The worst of the rust can be difficult to spot. It usually is due to water leaking into the car via the heater box. Open the bonnet and you will see a black cover near the bulkhead with screws attaching it. Open it up and take a look. Rust here will be expensive to fix.

Im surprised looking at your other cars, you would be looking at a 280 !

Surely a 500 is more you !

yes typically it would be, but I have found a nice 280 SL that prob will buy & just trying to get info on them.

The main problems with 107's is rust, and rust. Check all the drain holes are clear, even take a watering can along to check.

Mechanically fairly solid, at the age they are now, rubber mounts, seal and bushes perish. But most parts available.

Interior and exterior trim are expensive, so worth checking its all intact.

Im sure the 280 engine will be OK, just not as exciting as a 500.

We do get this a lot lately, is it worth us having a buyers guide section in the forum? I'm sure it'd help untold amounts of people :D

Perhaps get someone who's really in the know about a model (and willing) to do a little write up for each?

can anyone tell how many vin numbers there are on a 107 and location thanks
