The future Mrs nb racing is looking into the possibility of leasing a new A class. Neither of us know much about leasing so looking for some basic tips or advice.

She'll be doing about 20k a year so need a deal with a high mileage allowance, I understand you get fisted for going over the allocated mileage...

In addition, the parkers website state "A 168bhp 2.0-litre diesel will come later". Can anyone in the know shed any light when "later" might be. She wants as much bhp from her diesel as possible.

Cheers.

Yes. Most headline deals are quoted at the likes of 8K and 10K miles per annum. Advice is usually to get the extra mileage included as it's likely to be a lot cheaper.

Things to watch out for.

(1) Headline deals being presented different ways - eg. 6+23, 9+23. sometimes different leasing companies/agents will basically offer the same overall deal presented either as high upront with low monthly or vice versa.
(2) Watch out for extra 'documentation' fees.
(3) Business only deals are not always business only - so it's worth enquiring
(4) Options will cost a fortune unless bundled in the deal.
(5) Keep an eye out for one off immediate deals if you're not bothered about spec as these can be good value.
(6) Check whether VED is included - it usually is for first year but not always for subsequent years.
(7) Longer leases are not always cheaper than short ones.
(8) These deals are not as flexible as buying - in theory you're commiting to all the rental payments over the entire term - make sure you can deal with your own circumstances changing.
(9) It's not you car - little dings and scrapes that you might live with will need to be fixed (or paid for). Factor that into your costs.
(10) If leasing over a period that is not an exact number of years then factor in the cost/hassles of that part year insurance.
(11) The car will almost certainly need to be dealer serviced so factor that in.
(12) Always check how much models higher up the range are on similar deals ... you may be surprised.

Brilliant. Thanks.

Remember that if you go OVER the miles you state you'll be charged, but if you are UNDER you don't get a refund.....

So if it's 5p per mile penalty for example - and 20k per year allowance is (say) £400 per month and 10k per year is £300 per month you'd actually be BETTER off going for the lower one and paying the penalty - because if you then did 15k per annum you'd pay less.

Check very carefully the mileage penalty (and check because sometimes it's 5p per mile up to 1000m and then 10p for the next 5000 and then 15p and so forth) to work out what's best for you.
