E63 AMG S
I have put my 2014 / 14 plate E63 S up for private sale but am unsure of value, and would appreciate some advice. Key facts are 25,000 miles, I’m the second registered keeper after buying it from MB Lincoln which had it as a demo car. Last service and MOT in March, with a FMBSH. 4 hardly worn Conti Sport tyres. Largely standard spec, which is pretty good already of course, but OASIS spec sheet shows extra as panoramic roof, digital tv tuner, reversing camera, keyless go as extra cost. I has a very small light mark, a couple of small stone chips and one of the wheels has a tiny amount of scuff.

I hope I’m not breaking any rules on here - this isn’t intended to be an advert. I would have posted one but I don’t have enough posts (I have been registered for a few years but am more of a reader...). Seems prices have dropped a bit in the last couple of weeks, and this is the first time I’ve privately sold a car this nice.

I don't know about value. If you want to get the best price, or even a decent price, it has to be mint. So fix the marks, chips and scuffs before you list it. Otherwise a buyer will shred you when it comes to price.

I’m not sure members will be able to advise, on this occasion I think you’re probably the expert if you’re been watching the market closely enough to notice prices have dropped within a two week period - I think I you have your finger on the pulse already. Good luck with the sale.

Stick the registration number into WBAC. That’ll give you some idea. I expect you’re likely to get above that, but it’s a start.

I think prices are all over the place, with AT showing quite a range for broadly similar cars. As with any car, condition matters and you need to see some of the cars to get a firm idea.

Ignore WBAC prices for specialist cars like these. Is that where you’re suggesting prices for E63S models have dropped in the last two weeks? Other than the obvious factors I can’t see why it would significantly change in that timescale.

I sold my E63 to a trader for a good chunk (£5-7k) more than places like WBAC would offer, and that was for a straight cash sale. He put it up for sale and it found a new home within two weeks :)

I’m guessing it’s a saloon, since you mention the panoramic roof as a cost opinion (came as standard on the estate)

Why not have the wheels refurbed, book it in with a detailer and get the chips/mark sorted out first? The mileage is fairly low and being an ‘S’ model should be fairly desirable. Then either try privately or see if one of the traders wants to take it on? I couldn’t be bothered selling a £25k+ car privately and figured it sometimes needs a dealer to find the right sort of buyer at this sort of price point.

Put some pics up on here though, someone might be interested

Yeah, ignore WBAC completely.
I traded my W212 E63 to Mercedes for 6K more than they were quoting.
Try an autotrader valuation, they seem a bit better than WBAC.

I didn't even bother trying to sell my W212, I previously tried selling the C63 I had and it was a terrible experience, between dickheads giving stupid offers, others looking test drives who didn't look like they were ever going to purchase, and then asking if I did finance.

I don’t think the price is too far out - although that depends on how quick you want rid, I think to speed things up you may have to be below £30k due to dealers being similar money - but it was on, quite tellingly, the third site I looked at; to me eBay and Autotrader are the first two anyone looks at whereas Pistonheads is the last place I’d look for a private seller due to the sheer number of car dealers and dreadful Mercedes search function.

Also might be worth a little more detail in the advert e.g. mileage points of servicing and possibly the data-card.

It does look a very nice example but essentially, as I’m sure you know, whether something sells or not is down to the price.

Thanks everyone for your input, it's really useful and very much appreciated. A few specific responses (sorry, seemed too complicated to try and quote from various posts above to reply!):

I will indeed get the (very) minor marks repaired.

I have tried WBAC (and similar), and as expected it's well under what I think I can get for it elsewhere. The Auto Trader valuation is £500 less than I put it up for. I'm not in a rush to sell (and indeed regularly think am I doing the right thing in not keeping it???). The price drop I think i noticed is just looking at prices on Auto Trader - probably ~ £500 drop in two weeks.

Prior to putting it up, I did reach out to 4/5 traders who claim on their website to be interested in these types of cars - I didn't get one response. I would have preferred to have gone that route rather than the hassle of private. I've had two traders contact in response to the ad - one saying he'd pay mid twenties (less than WBAC / WWAC which has it at ~£27k) and another saying to get in contact if I drop the price, as "they sell high 20's sadly not 30's". I haven't seen any for sale at less than £30k - I'm guessing he assumes it's a standard E63 rather than the S (or he's trying it on).

It is indeed a saloon.

Re: where I put the ad up - a work colleague who is into his cars suggested PH would be the best. It was only after placing the ad that I came across the stupid Mercedes search thing. I'll add it to Auto Trader, and look into eBay (I'm not really an eBay user).

SPX - good advice re: adding mileage points of servicing - I will add that in thanks. What do you mean by data card?

Once again, many thanks everyone. There have been occasions over the last 3 years where i've considered selling it, only to come on here and read how much the forum users love their AMGs, which in turn rekindles my love for it and reminds me I need to keep and enjoy it! It has got to the point however where it's just not being used, and I'm not wealthy enough to justify that much money sitting in the garage!

I have been looking at this model for a while now and there are a couple with similar mileage selling privately for £27k and 27.5k respectively.
Both are white cars, one an E63s and appear in A1 condition.

Re your datacard, if you enter your Vin# into this MB decoder, you can obtain the datacard which shows everything fitted including options when the car was built.
Copy it and put it in your ad for more info for prospective buyers.
Good luck with the sale:thumb:

Where are you seeing those AMGeed? I checked Auto Trader, Piston Heads and eBay and, unless I missed something, didn't see any that low.

Cheers re: the data card info - will do that.

Looks like both the white cars have sold.
This is the closest to the price I mentioned but its 15k miles more and not and E63S. It is however a 2015 64plate car.

In your position if I were in no hurry to sell, I'd hold on to the car, get the defects fixed and negotiate for around £30k.

Having seen that the new shape E63 S is hovering near £50k now, I think you’re getting out at the right time by the way, once these car break certain barriers (like the first one that goes up for £49,995) they all seem to start dropping - usually after you’ve just bought one too!

Good luck with the sale though, you come across as a genuine guy too (but then who isn’t from Yorkshire? :D) so let’s just hope you’re not struggling to sell in a month.

All the best.

Traders always low-ball these cars because they represent a risk to them, and as a private sale with no warranty the marketplace is very limited. Having sold my 2015 E63 with a nice spec a couple of months ago, I’d say that you’ll do very well to get more than £28 - £28.5k.

Sorry if that sounds like I’m p*ssing on anyone’s fireworks, but the market for these cars is tiny and unless you strike it lucky then it’s a sub-£30k car :(
