Advice & Opinions - Soon to sell my 1999 R129 SL500

Stunning Result! One day i may get to own a r129, just hope the Ev and Hybrid devlopment doesn't stop me before hand.
No chance of the EV and Hybrid developments stopping your ability to get an R129. Whether you can drive it in London or other places is another matter.

I always wanted an R129 SL500 as a kid and am lucky to have had 2 of them and an SL60 as well. I do regret selling the SL60 but not the 1st SL500. I won't regret selling this SL500 either as I know the funds will allow me to add to the other 2/3 selling cars fund to bring something nice in at some point.

You will never go wrong buying a nice SL500 Gav. Can't see them ever losing any money now. As the lesser ones start to disappear the good ones will be harder to find and this will strengthen values.

If you have this in April 2020, I'll be down with cash in hand!

Black SL500 Is the dream.
I shall keep you posted. I suspect not but you never know. I might decide to keep her if the market doesn't want to pay a reasonable/fair number.

Was hoping to have had more time this week to finish her off.....the SL not the wife btw!

Sadly not but will finish off next week. Will still be presentable for BOTG though.

Got some nice wheels and a couple of new tyres though [emoji16]

Don’t worry Dean, no car is ever finished or absolutely perfect - even stuff displayed in museums and MB world etc you can find imperfections :)

Who did the wheels for you, and are you pleased with them?

Agreed....have to accept it is a 17 year old car and not new anymore. I dare say plenty of new ones have issues if you look close enough.

I used John Tice at The Wheel Specialist in St Alban's. I think they were on Wheeler Dealers a while back. Always quick and reliable and never had any issues. Not the cheapest but I'd prefer to pay a little more and have no issues. Have used them a few times now with no issues.

It is a franchise and John set up a couple of years back but they seem to be set up well and have all the high end kit to do whatever you need.

I had my Maser alloys done as a colour change as we're mint anyway at Lepsons who are also very good. It was being serviced by AV engineering in Ashford so they use Lepsons as part of their package.

St Alban's is nice and local for me so can recommend both for sure.

Fingers crossed for a dry Day, cant wait to see it Dean :)
Don't worry about my amateur efforts. I can't wait to see the E55 of the OCD master [emoji6]

This is the first time I have machine polished a car so please be gentle. Trouble is the more time you spend on it the more you find. I need to close my eyes or squint a bit then it looks great!

Certainly is nice working with it on the scissor lift at any height you want. I'm a very lucky boy and appreciate it all.

Be getting my steam cleaner out next to clean some carpet.

Oh no....I'm turning into Gav [emoji44]

Lol, Top tip.....

Buy a Silver car like me haha ;)

Seriously the r129 looks Stunning Dean :)

Black is the most frustrating colour and also the most rewarding, a real labour of love for detailing. Just don’t park it under any artificial lights or look at it close up in direct sunlight  :D

You two could have told me that black is a nightmare before I started. Chr1st on a bike! I'm getting a silver one next [emoji3]

Agreed! I wouldnt buy a Silver car out of choice, Although you can get away with alot when it comes to the finish,

I started at a Early age, This will make you all giggle.......

Yes it is me lol

The front lights and grille look like a RR classic :D

I had developed a little rattle on the last couple of miles back from BOTG the other week. Has been good as gold until last mile or two from home.

Sounds like it is coming from the left side secondary CAT. If anyone has an R129 left side CAT section let me know ;)

Thanks Gav. Trying to keep OEM but waiting for MB Stevenage to give me price and availability. I'm expecting either not available, long leadtime or ridiculous price. Although could be two of the three!

I have a chap coming to see it on Sunday but being the nicest most honest person I am have made home fully aware.

Wonder how much different the non-OEM will be and if it will affect flow or sound if I left the perfectly fine right off side section as stock OEM.

I’d maybe leave it to the new owner to decide how to proceed? Some may want OEM only, others might live with aftermarket, and the other option is guess is to take it to an exhaust fabrication place to have it either gutted out or new cats welded into the OE system if in otherwise sound condition? :)

Having 2 cats on there tbh i doubt it would sound any different. It would be more the fit that would concern me.

You won't go far wrong with a nice R129. Highly recommended. This is my 3rd.

Thanks for the thoughts. I suspect your right to pop the car up for £14995 and see what offers come in. That price might be a little strong but will see what other thoughts and opinions come in.

Will take some new pics this weekend but have a few fairly recent ones.
