Advice re finding a independent service garage for a VW

Hiya,

SWMBO's VW Touran has a engine management light saying take to workshop.

The car is 10y old but has been perfect till now.

My question is this

Forget main dealer. Would you take to a general garage? A VW specific garage? And how would you get a handle on workmanship/reputation?

Based in Bromley if anyone has any specific recommendations.

Does one just take a punt?

Specialist if one local, otherwise a garage I trust.

Asking on a VW forum would be my first port of call though as they are the ones who will know of any trusted specialists.

Frequent visit is the way to get a handle on workmanship/reputation. I think you know about it better than I do.

Who has serviced it up to now? I would take it there. Otherwise use a main dealer.
