I have a (only used 6 times!) Sierra Wireless AirCard 880 HSPA broadband Type II PC Card which worked fine with an O2 SIM in my old laptop. However, my new laptop has an Express54 slot!

Anybody know what I need to be using now? Better still, anybody just want to swop? LOL. Cost really is an issue (I already have an O2 Card that gives me free access courtesy of an earlier thread :D )

So you'll be wanting to move your SIM into something like this then:

Probably worth shopping around for best price, but the Novatel cards are good.

Ouch! Not worth it for the few times it would be used :( Just have to hope for someone who would like to swop. Thanks anyway

Edit: Or anybody got a USB stick one that they don't use?

Hey Steve,

The HP laptop that you have has an option to have a built in HSPA Broadband modem - its fits inside it, and the SIM slots into a space just under the battery when you have the optional module installed.

I can find out how much I can get you one for...

Yes please Was. Just spotted that!

I got a O2 PAYG USB modem for £25 from one of their shops. Costs £2 for 24 hours access with discounts for taking a week or a month. Might be worth getting one of those.

It's a branded Huawei modem.

I think you need to be careful with this. Are you talking about the iPhone SIM?

If so, I'm not sure that it can be used to gain free internet access on a PC (used as a modem) as the access point will differ.

Perhaps someone else can confirm but my instinct tells me that it won't.

I have the same modem. It's absolutely great if you are in a decent signal area but crap if you only have one bar. Annoyingly it isn't as good as my Nokia E90 for picking up signal, but I've not had any problems with it in locations in London, Edinburgh and Bournemouth.

You also get free access to BT Openzone and The Cloud hotspots which covers you for most chain hotels, airports, service stations, etc.

Off the top of my head you should be able to set up the access point in the software, so it shouldn't matter. I have a feeling the access point is stored on the SIM card in some cases, but don't quote me on that.
