Advice regarding driving to France and Switzerland

Should've brimmed it then - at the nearest practical filling station before your final stop. Own it or moan it...

To subsidise EVs?
Nah, I brimmed it this morning, at a cost of £40.

I’ll need to brim it again tomorrow morning if I want to start the day with “full range.”

(“Because we ICE drivers need to be able to drive 500 miles in a day without a stop for fuel, a ☕️ , lunch 🥙 or a 🫛 “)

Even though most of us drive less than 200 miles a week.

What subsidy on EV’s ?

Charging someone less Road fund licence because they’ve just paid several thousand extra in VAT sounds like GordonBrown logic

The UK government makes a lot of money from nudging people into more expensive cars than our French, Spanish and Italian neighbours

Come back when electricity for recharging is taxed as per petrol and diesel - which were taxed long before the need to reduce CO2 emissions was identified.

Good luck differentiating between a 2kW space heater and a 2kW 3-pin lead ;)

How will you charge an Estate agent more for electricity when she runs her cable out to her Electric MINI?

Or when the small Garage staff connect up their 330e’s and I4’s while they’re at work.

(Small garage as in little company not as in 5’6” mechanics.)

The reason for that being that Europe was pouring a fortune into the hands of the Saudis.

Which isn’t the case when electricity comes from your local wind farm.

At that point... fuel for ICE cars will be taxed even higher that it is now.

ICE cars will always be more expensive to run, the government will make sure of it.

Good luck to anyone who expects cheap ICE ownership experience in the years to come.

And the The Energy Bills Rebate is given equally to all consumers of electricity, including those who charge their Teslas by running an extension lead across the pavement.

Update: now planning a further journey from Switzerland to the South of Italy in a week's time.
Ooh, where's the destination? This is a good time of year to visit southern Italy.

Easily done of current tech....it wouldn't be done from the house end.....but the car end....then only leccy that went into the individual car gets taxed.......not your old two bar heater in the office!!

That nice Mr Starmer does, of course have bills to pay. An extra £10 billion to be found for Defence. And how many hundreds of more billions to nationalise the Railways, and pay for all those salary increases right across the Public Sector

People are always smarter than governments.

You'll be able to buy a portable battery that you can charge at home then take out to the car and charge the car from it (like a mobile phone power pack).

We can speculate for days and days. The fact is that ICE will always be more expensive to run.

Maybe smarter but not stronger. A portable 500kg battery?
