Advice regarding driving to France and Switzerland

Can Mods merge this with the other EV thread? Bit of a mess now. 👀 😂

I would argue that it's the other way around...

If I plug-in my car at home before going to bed, why would I not just let it charge until the maximum level has been reached (80% or 100%, depending on circumstances)? I.e. it's not like I'm standing next to the car holding the pump nozzle.

However, when driving on the motorway and stopping at a fast charger, I'd only stop for as long as needed to top-up in order to allow me to finish my journey. Unlike with ICE cars, there's really no point in filling-up to the max while on the road, it's not needed, and it's a waste of time, and a waste of money, as the electricity from fast motorway charger is more expensive than electricity at home (Unless, of course, the driver needs a longer break than the EV needs for the top-up charging).

I agree completely ... but we were talking about ICE drivers not being able to start every day with a full tank!

Been to Lecce many times. Beautiful place.
Indeed it is. Matera is well worth a look if you haven't visited, as is Alberobello. Hope you have a great time.

Maybe smarter but not stronger. A portable 500kg battery?
Wow! Why would anyone need such a large mobile charger?

We can speculate for days and days. The fact is that ICE will always be more expensive to run.
Aye, but only because we elect British politicians to tax car usage and spend that money on salary increases for public sector, foreign wars, £11 billion IT systems that aren’t implemented, and billion pound tents to host the Millenium celebration because the Royal Albert Hall is too convenient, warm and old fashioned

Current price of petrol in Texas?
£0.64 / litre.
($3.20 per US Gallon)

It doesn't need to be mobile... just have long enough extension leads on either end.

The foreign wars are arguable as waste, but I’ll go with the rest.

Anyone else still think “but it’s the government’s money” and not theirs?

No better way of rallying the military and Defence industry bmvotes.

If challenged, just find an external enemy

So, in short,,,,, You went to the Swiss Alps just as the skiing was finished, & now you're visiting the stunning Italian Adriatic coast, but before the water has warmed ?

🤔 In a word; "baffled" * (Oh and pretty jealous too MJ, obviously, but baffled nonetheless).

* Yes, I realise that's not an entirely new state of affairs for me

Maybe he's going for the Panzerotti and a couple of glasses of Primitivo.
I know I would 😋

Going against the flow, that's me :D

With the weather finally getting warmer, the EV (on summer tyres) was taken out of hibernation and I can now drive it freely. Again, I am amazed at how they have EV chargers at almost every car park.

"EV chargers at every car park?"

It's almost as if it's profitable to provide an electrical point for vehicles to use.

Hold on ! We might be on to something here.

Sadly, it is cheaper for me to be on the Riviera in Winter, and in the French Alps in June, than to be in the UK. Times is hard.

The curse of the school holiday season.

What subsidy on EV’s ?

Charging someone less Road fund licence because they’ve just paid several thousand extra in VAT sounds like GordonBrown logic

The UK government makes a lot of money from nudging people into more expensive cars than our French, Spanish and Italian neighbours
Company cars where the VAT is reclaimed.

Company cars where the VAT is reclaimed.
Company cars where some of the VAT can be reclaimed, before billing more in VAT to end clients for the total service. Sold by an industry which pays huge amounts of tax to the UK Government in import costs, transport, income taxes, NI, council tax, corporation taxes etcetera etcetera …

Here’s the deal: we’ll give you £50k off a £500k Rolls Royce. Is that a subsidy? Or a way of getting you to spend more on a product than you would have otherwise spent ?

The UK Government makes
