hi to every one again and thank every one for there advice, just to let every one that my ML270 propshft is fixed now and be picking it up tomomorw, i ve got advice about takeing warranty company to court from my solicitor ,but he advised me that his charges for looking into my problem may cost more than what the cost of the job ill either go to small claims court and pay £100 first to start proceedings or just pay up and canncel the warranty and get the rest of my money back, the warranty from the dealer was only 3 months and ran out just 2 months ago, sods law! after many hours complaining with both warranty and dealer and getting no where i decided to pay up and pick up car tomomorow they've had the car a 13 days now and i,m missing it,the garage has left the part in my back boot for me to take down and show a MB dealer for his opinion on this part to see if its wear and tear.
anyway as this is my first mercedes purchase and still love it to bits and although it has been a bad start fro me since i bought it 5 months ago,i want to move on now and enjoy it, so i have a few questions to ask any body that may find there time and help me,

1. at current a have dunlop trek tiles on at the moment but the two front tyres are nearly worn just a few more miles to go on them what tiles should i replace them with the same or something differant ive got a certain budget to think of.
2.if using the tip shaft while driving when changing from D into 4 gear or any gear that is does this do any harm to the gear box? or do i use this system while stationary to start with, what is its real purpose for off road maybe or both?
3.some one told me that when you stop and select the gear into park they said you should put the foot brake on first then place in park positon
to avoid damage to gear box is this true or just a load of balls,
4.also do we need to keep the esp switch always on or can we switch it off, whats it do?
5.people ask me while is auto better than manual on these motors and whats the differance and often think while is a lot of mercs auto as well including mine.
i will probly have more questions later on, cheers borrill

Not sure about tyres as my ML and yours are completely different so the tyres I have will probably not suit yours.

You can just use the tip function whenever you want, it's handy for keeping the turbo on boost when overtaking and would be usefull on downhill descents when off road, mine has hill descent which works superbly btw.

When you stop you must keep your foot on the brake and then change it into park or reverse or whatever, I'm fairly sure you can damage the gearbox over time if you clunk it into park without the brake on.

The ESP switch is Electronic Stability Programme, basically when the car detects a loss of traction to a wheel it will brake the offending wheel so you do not loose control. Best to have it on during normal driving unless you like getting the back end out on Stevenage's roundabouts.

Mercedes Auto boxes are very good whereas their manual boxes not so good, hence everyone wants an auto Merc.

do you mean the little peddle brake by the peddles or just the actual foot brake?
thanks for the advice really appreciate it, borrill

hi there again as you may know the problems with my warranty company which runs out next year when i bought the car, should i look for another one as certain parts on these machinces are very exspensive ie.. gear box or engine failure..to pay for and for peace of mind although there is no gurantee they will pay out any way on any thing,
do you recomend any or are they all the same, what do you think i should do? leave them and save money myself for never you know problem that may occur as with any car,i just want that peace of mind,
