Hi everyone,

just got SWIMBO’s car back after a service with the advice that the rear subframe is getting a bit “crusty”. Its a 2003 CLK 200 Elegance convertible in rude health apart from the subframe so we’re at a crossroads here.

on the plus side it’s pretty tidy overall with a very comprehensive service history file (Merc main dealers/Merparts) and has wanted for nothing in the nine years we have had it. It’s currently living in our carport as our SL is cosseted in the garage.

So the big question is, do we replace the subframe or sell it to an enthusiast as a project?

it’s MOT’d till September so we are in no hurry especially it drives beautifully, the engine and engine are in fab condition and most of the suspension and brakes are less than two years old. It’s on winter tyres (summer wheels in our garage) so more than ready for the upcoming weather, even roof down as we have the rare OE wind blocker.

It would definitely make a terrific summer runaround but should it be for us or someone else?

ps. We also have an SUV for those occasions when one is needed...

Run it for a year then trade it in just before MOT
