Advise in the chester area

Hi,

I have recently moved into the Chester area and I will soon need my E220cdi servicing. I know there is a main dealer there but can any one tell me what the service / pricing is like. I used to use Draytons in the west mids and were happy with their service.

Alternatively is there anywhere else you would recommend?

Call me a stickler but I'd like to try and keep my stamps all MB if I can. I have found that most times with a bit a pushing I can get the prices at a main dealer to pretty much the same as indies, I dont mind paying a bit more for good service.

Does anyone have a contact at Chester or remarks from their experience there?

MB Chester is owned by Inchcape and they have fallen into line with the cheaper servicing brought in by MB when the cars moved to fixed intervals. Follow the link on the right hand side of this page: http://www.inchcape.mercedes-benz.co.uk . I think you will need to refer to these prices or you may get quoted higher.

I've used them all the time I've had my car but it's been on ServicePlus. To be honest, I'm not impressed by them although I think it's made awkard by the fact that the maintenance controllers at ServicePlus are pretty stingy and Chester know that I won't want to pay for anything myself.

They therefore do the bare minimum work they can get away with - with ServicePlus you absolutely do not get the "we've got the wheels off and it could do with pads and discs" call. And it sails through MOTs without a murmer.

I think if you compare the Service Care cost with Inchcape's pricing then you can decide if it's worth it. Off the top of my head, there's nothing in it.


Mercedes has stopped ServicePlus for cars - it was spin off from the commerical vehicle side and was incredibly loosely worded. It was clear that MB intended it to cover servicing and wear and tear items like brake pads, but the wording was such that it basically covers anything that goes wrong with the car, so it's like service, maintenance and warranty all rolled into one. It wasn't cheap - about £70/mth for my car but that was about the same as an MB extended warranty on its own.

I live within a very short distance of MB Chester although both our cars I have used MB tech in Warrington, there is also a Specialist in Queensferry.

If you want to keep the MB stamp rather than Specialist then ring then for a quote, Made me smile with my wifes A class, the first service was around £450 (b) then on top of that spark plugs, air filter, brake fluid and typically they recomend a re gas air con. The total was over £700 for an A class.....?? not sure what the £450 'service' included? so I went to a specialist....



Just looked and the 'fixed' price servicing looks good but would like to now what the added extras are....

I went to Chester this morning and managed to get an A service for £250 including an MOT for £35 and I get Rac cover for my wifes car and free MOT cover/insurance (?).

Pretty impressed so far, the staff seemed friendly and the coffee was OK.
